Women’s Track & Field Finishes Second at Millersville Metrics; Makar Sets Shot Put Record

MILLERSVILLE – Highlighted by sophomore Elizabeth Makar shattering her own school record in the shot put, the East Stroudsburg University women's track and field team finished as the runners-up at the 39th annual Millersville Metrics on Saturday at Biemesderfer Stadium.

Posting PSAC qualifying marks were Jeanette Jones (100m hurdles), Kamaya Edmonds (triple jump), Nickolina Annelli (pole vault)

For the second consecutive week, Makar eclipsed her own program record in the shot put as she recorded a mark of 14.48m (47-6 ¼). The Oxford, Pa. native currently ranks fourth in all of Division II with her throw.

Running Highlights

Kaylene Raczka finished 18th in the 1500m after clocking a personal-best time of 5:15.38. Ariel Kyle secured a 10th place finish in the 400m after crossing the line in 1:01.25 in the final section.

After clocking a PSAC qualifying time in the 100m hurdles prelims, Jones returned to grab the spot after clocking a time of 14.82 in the finals. Jacklyn Spaccaforno would take sixth place after finishing in 15.88.

Sarah Guthrie paced the Warriors in the 400m hurdles with a sixth place finish after running a time of 1:12.42.

In the 200m, ESU was led by Kyle, who finished as the runner-up with a time of 26.11 and Jones (26.81) in fourth.

The Warriors wrapped up the day on the track with a seventh place finish in the 4x400m as Carolina Kaczmarek, Misha Duverger, Spaccaforono and Jalen Rhodes clocked a time of 4:34.82.

Field Event Highlights

Edmonds got her outdoor season started on the right foot as she was the runner-up in the triple jump with a PSAC qualifying mark of 11.10m (36-5) which also ranks as the ninth best leap in program history.

Hannah Frankenfield led the Warriors in the pole vault, taking third at 3.30m (10-10) while Annelli notched a conference qualifying mark at the same height, followed by Juliana Schraer at 3.15m (10-4) in sixth.

Isabella Marte had an impressive showing in the hammer throw with a fourth place finish after recording a personal-best mark of 48.48m (159-1), which ranks sixth-best in program history. Makar took sixth after recording a mark of 46.97m (154-1) and Zionette Salahuddin notched a personal-best throw of 40.07m (131-5). 

On her way to breaking the school record in the shot put, Makar finished as the runner-up while Marte took 11th with a throw of 11.05m (36-3).

Marte wrapped up her busy afternoon by taking fifth in the discus with a mark of 37.25m (122-2).

Olivia Sforza finished ESU's day in the throws with a sixth place finish in the javelin after notching a mark of 36.09m (118-05).
