LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) announced that East Stroudsburg University football and track & field student-athlete Daryn Blackwell has been named PSAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Co-Chair. Blackwell will represent ESU along with other PSAC institutions on the eastern half of the state in the committee.
In this appointment, Blackwell will serve on the PSAC Advisory Council. The council is made up of athletic administrators and coaches, among other executive personnel to review proposals that are then passed along to the PSAC Presidents Council. Blackwell will also represent ESU and the eastern division at board of directors' meetings and additional conference gatherings.
"The opportunity to represent the ESU football and track and field teams has been nothing but amazing and something I will never forget," said Blackwell. "The opportunity now to represent not just ESU in its entirety but the entire east side of the conference is fantastic. I look forward to bringing our work hard, compete, do it right mindset to every meeting and being the best version of me I can be for the great cause."
Blackwell, a sport management major, is well accomplished on and off the field for the Warriors. A dean's list honoree, Blackwell was honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as a Super Region 1 All-Academic selection this past season. An excellent student, Blackwell currently holds a 3.7 GPA.
This past February, Blackwell finished third in the weight throw at the PSAC Indoor Championships, recording a personal-best mark of 16.88m, which ranks the seventh best in program history.
"Daryn is perfect for this position," said ESU men's track and field head coach Justin Germani. "Not only is Daryn a leader and positive influence on our team, he is a true representative for all student-athletes. Our throws coach and I have watched Daryn transform the throwing atmosphere at meets from one where opposing teams keep to themselves to one of interaction, community, and support across teams."
On the gridiron, the starting defensive tackle for the Warriors, registered 40 tackles in his career, posting four tackles for loss in 2021. He placed eighth at the 2021 PSAC Outdoor Championships in the hammer.
"I can not think of a more dedicated and qualified student-athlete to represent East Stroudsburg University as the PSAC SAAC Co-Chair," said ESU head football coach Jimmy Terwilliger. "Daryn has an electric personality and an unrivaled work ethic that can be seen on the field and on the track. He cares deeply about student-athlete experience, and he represents all that is good in intercollegiate athletics. I am proud to coach this young man, and he will do a fine job representing all student-athletes in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference."
A native of Toms River, N.J., Blackwell is joined as a Co-Chair in the PSAC East with Shippensburg women's swimming's Manisha Kapoor. Serving as the PSAC West SAAC Chair is Gannon women's golfer Sarah White.
ESU Football's Rece Bender recently served as the PSAC East Co-Chair in 2021-22.
