KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- After suffering its first loss of the season in its previous contest, the sixth-ranked East Stroudsburg University lacrosse team bounced back to defeat Kutztown, 11-6, on Wednesday afternoon at Keystone Field.
The Warriors (12-1, 8-1 PSAC East) got back to their winning ways with their 10th consecutive win against Kutztown. The Golden Bears fall to 4-10, 1-8 in PSAC East action.
Several milestones were reached for the Warriors in the contest, including Emily Mitarotonda's 100th career goal, Kiki Fitzpatrick's 100th career point and Kristen Andreychak's 100th career ground ball.
Notables
- Mitarotonda and Fitzpatrick combined for 13 of the Warriors' 17 points on the evening. Mitarotonda scored five goals and distributed two assists, while Fitzpatrick totaled four goals and two assists against the Golden Bears.
- Mitarotonda also helped significantly defensively, posting three caused turnovers and scooped six ground balls.
- Gianna LeDuc added an assist and a goal for two points, while Lauren Neufeld also tallied a goal. Mary Fitzsimmons rounds out the point scorers with an assist.
- Madison Bagatta and Maddie Heck also caused three turnovers.
- McKenna Conklin scooped four ground balls caused a pair of turnovers.
- Kayleigh Pokrivka, the NCAA Division II active leader in career caused turnovers totaled two CTs and picked up three ground balls.
- McKenzie Gaghan (6-1) picked up the win, allowing three first half goals.
- The Warriors have won 16 of the past 17 matchups against Kutztown, dating back to 2008. The Golden Bears last defeated the Warriors in 2013.
How it Happened
- ESU built a 5-1 first quarter lead, as the Warriors responded with a 5-0 run after Lailah ElBouazzaoui scored the first goal of the game in the sixth minute of play. Lauren Neufeld opened the scoring for the Warriors, as Mitarotonda scored four of her five goals in a stretch of less than four minutes.
- KU sliced the deficit to 5-2, following a goal from Sam Graf, as ESU would then score four of the next five to take a 9-3 lead in the fourth quarter.
- With ESU leading 9-3, the Golden Bears scored three consecutive goals to slice the deficit to just three at 9-6, but Fitzpatrick tallied a pair of goals in the final two minutes to put the game on ice at 11-6.
