Program Record Five Warriors Named to IWLCA All-America Teams

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – Heading into the NCAA Semifinals with a 19-1 record, the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association announced on Wednesday that a program record five East Stroudsburg University lacrosse Warriors have earned All-America status. 

Graduate students Gianna LeDuc and Kayleigh Pokrivka and sophomore Emily Mitarotonda earned IWLCA All-America First Team honors, while redshirt junior Kiki Fitzpatrick and junior Maggie Sell were selected to the IWLCA All-America Third Team.

LeDuc, Mitarotonda and Pokrivka join Krista Mitarotonda (2018), Kirstin Restivo (2000), Jen Fluck (1998), Laurie Glah (1997), Nicolle Sexto (1996), Vicki Vaites (1995), Denise Groeber (1993) and Frankie Collins (1983) as the only IWLCA All-America First Team selections in program history. The Warriors were tied for the lead in first team All-American selections with fellow NCAA Semifinalist UIndy. 

LeDuc secured her first IWLCA All-America selection, setting a new ESU single season record in with 103 , points with at least one game remaining this season.

LeDuc can score and distribute, posting 51 goals and 52 assists. Five of her 51 goals were game winners this season. She has tallied at least two points in all 20 games this season, posting a career-best nine points against Bloomsburg on March 5. She has reached at least four points in 15 contests.

 This season, LeDuc, a former walk-on has now captured All-PSAC East First Team, PSAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, IWLCA All-Region First Team and now IWLCA All-America First Team.

Mitarotonda, who already exceeded the Warriors’ single season goal record by 10 with at least one game left this season, has 82 goals in 2022 to pace the Warriors. The sophomore earns All-America honors for the second consecutive season after being named to the IWLCA Second Team during her freshman campaign. 

Since the final regular season game against Bloomsburg on April 29, Mitarotonda has averaged 5.8 points per contest, including seven goals and the overtime game winner against West Chester in the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship. She has recorded five-plus points in 13 games this season.

No slouch on the draw or on defense, she ranks third on the team in caused turnovers (32) and ground balls (48) and leads the Warriors with 98 draw controls. Mitarotonda season has earned PSAC East Athlete of the Year, All-PSAC East First Team, IWLCA All-Region First Team and IWLCA All-America First Team. 

Pokrivka has been a force defensively, earning her first All-America recognition from the IWLCA.  The active career NCAA Division II caused turnovers leader has caused 60 turnovers this season, leading ESU and ranks third in the country in the category. 

She also ranks in the top-10 nationally in ground balls per game, posting an average of 3.55. The graduate student has caused at least three turnovers in 11 games this season, posting a career-best eight against Shepherd earlier this season. 

The native of York has now earned PSAC East Defender of the Year, All-PSAC East First Team, IWLCA All-Region First Team along with claiming IWLCA All-America First Team accolades. 

Fitzpatrick’s 99 points this season ranks third on the squad and the third most in a single season in program history, compiling 53 goals and 43 assists.

She has collected 77 draw controls and 32 ground balls, in a balanced effort for the midfielder. She has posted at least three points in each of her past seven games and in 18 of 20 games this season. She was named IWLAC National Player of the Week after an eight-point contest against IUP, where she scored a career-high six goals against the Crimson Hawks. 

This season, Fitzpatrick has earned All-PSAC East First Team, IWLCA All-Region First Team and IWLAC All-America Third Team accolades. 

Sell, another member of ESU’s defensive unit that ranks sixth nationally in scoring defense, has caused 40 turnovers and scooped 55 ground balls, ranking just behind Pokrivka on the Warriors. 

Sell has performed well so fair this NCAA Tournament, causing four turnovers against Mercyhurst and West Chester while combining for 10 ground balls. 

ESU turns its head to the national stage, facing Queens on Friday at Noon in a 2021 NCAA Semifinal rematch.
