TAMPA, Fla. – East Stroudsburg University football defensive end Deshawn McCarthy has earned his second preseason honor of his senior season,  being named to the East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 list on Wednesday morning.

Every year, approximately 1000 all-star game eligible players are drafted, signed after the draft, or attend a rookie mini-camp. The Shrine Bowl 1000 serves as a look into the scouting process, as well as begin to preview college players who are currently all-star game eligible for the 2023 East-West Shrine Bowl and 2023 NFL Draft class.

The Philadelphia native was one of 29 NCAA Division II players selected and one of three PSAC representatives chosen, joining 2021 Harlon Hill Trophy winning quarterback Tyson Bagent and tackle Joey Fisher of Shepherd.

McCarthy previously was named to the Lindy's Sports All-Division II Team in June.

After registering 13 sacks (most by a Warrior since 1992) and 17 tackles for loss (most by a Warrior since 2009) in 11 games in 2021, McCarthy collected numerous postseason accolades including All-PSAC East First Team, D2CCA Super Region 1 Second Team, AFCA All-America First Team and D2Football.com Elite 100 First Team.

The senior has accumulated 19 career sacks and 24.5 tackles for loss. He ranks ninth all-time at ESU and trails all-time leader Des Hussey and Bill Camp by 14 sacks with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

ESU opens the 2022 season on the road at Pace on Thursday, September 1.
