EAST STROUDSBURG – After a season that saw the East Stroudsburg University lacrosse team set a program record for wins and advanced to the NCAA Division II National Championship game for first time in program history, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced on Wednesday that the Warriors were selected as an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad.
In addition to the team honor, the coaches' association also announced that eight Warrior student-athletes were named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll: Chelsea Allie (Exercise Science), Kristen Andreychak (Management and Leadership), Shannon Dent (Communications Sciences and Disorders), Maddie Heck (Management and Leadership), Elaina Ohlson (Exercise Science), Kayleigh Pokrivka (Public Health), Maggie Sell (Psychology/Sport and Exercise Psychology) and Allie Sweeney (Political Science/Business Analytics).
The eight Warriors were among the 434 student-athletes from 66 different institutions on the 2022 IWLCA Division II Academic Honor Roll. To earn a spot on the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student that have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.5 or greater.
The Warriors posted a program-best 20-2 overall record in 2022 and advanced to the NCAA Semifinals for the third time since 2018. After back-to-back 13-12 overtime wins over rival West Chester and Queens (N.C.) in the NCAA Tournament, ESU advanced to the NCAA title game for the first time in history. The Warriors fell just short of a national championship by a score of 11-9 to UIndy.
While taking care of business on the field, ESU posted a team cumulative GPA of 3.457 GPA during the 2021-22 academic year. The IWLCA has named 295 schools across Division I, II, III, and NAIA as IWLCA Academic Honor Squads. To qualify for this prestigious honor, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.2 or higher team GPA for the academic year.
