EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The ESU women's lacrosse team continued to roll through its schedule, winning its 11
th game in a row to start the season as the Warriors defeated Shepherd 21-4.
NOTABLES
- 12 different Warriors recorded at least one point on the day, as Jolee Roth led the way with five points. One of four ESU players to record a hat trick, Roth also dished out five assists, picking up three ground balls and causing two turnovers.
- Courtney Reynolds and Sadie Kauffman had identical point totals, each finishing with three goals and an assist. Both also came up with three ground balls, while Kauffman added four draw controls.
- Hannah Schiemer was ESU's fourth player to finish with three goals, scoring on half of her shots. She's now scored three goals in back-to-back games.
- Paige Moreland had a four-point day, assisting on three goals while scoring one herself. Her lone tally came on a free position shot, going 1-1 on the day.
- Molly Atwell had a dominant performance in the midfield and defensive end, leading ESU in ground balls, caused turnovers, and draw controls. She secured five ground balls, finishing with four caused turnovers and draw controls each.
- ESU played three goalkeepers today, as Abby Simonetti got credit for the win. She made one save in the game's first 25 minutes, but Madison McBride led the trio with four saves in 29 minutes while not allowing a goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warriors opened the game on an 11-0 run, shutting Shepherd out in the first quarter. Nine of ESU's goals in the opening 15 minutes came in the first nine minutes, as four different players scored the first four goals of the game. Roth was the first one to score multiple goals in the game, cashing in on an assist from Reynolds, then Katie Bullen and Lauren Hallman scored to give ESU two additional goal scorers. Kauffman completed her hat trick with 6:10 left in the quarter, ending her day on the field, and Moreland converted the free position attempt to end the first quarter, leading 10-0.
- After Reynolds opened the scoring in the second quarter, the teams split the next four goals of the game, as Rebekah Forney found the back of the net twice for Shepherd, with Hallman and Schiemer scoring in between her two tallies. Bullen and Ariana Tucci added two more goals for the Warriors, going into halftime with a 15-2 lead.
- ESU shut the Rams out for an entire quarter again in the third, nearly going the full second half until Shepherd scored twice in the final two minutes. Delia Lederman got the first score of the frame, followed by Kelly Quinlan and Reynolds adding man-up goals to build a 17-2 lead.
- Roth and Tucci connected to start the scoring in the fourth quarter for Roth's 19th goal of the season, and Jackie Riviezzo got the first goal of her career in her first game played. Schiemer's third of the day and 17th of the season with five minutes remaining would be the last goal of the day for ESU, as the Warriors put up 20 goals for the fifth time this season in their 21-4 win.
GAME NOTES
- After an 11-0 start to the season, the Warriors have tied their longest winning streak to begin a year, matching a mark set in 2022. They trail the longest overall winning streak in program history by one game, which was set in 2017.
- ESU's six-game conference winning streak marks the seventh time the Warriors have won six consecutive PSAC games. All of the previous six times have been since 2017.
- ESU's five games this season of 20 goals or more scored are a single-season record for the Warriors.
- ESU improved to 11-0 against Shepherd, posting the largest margin of victory and goals scored by the Warriors in the series history.
