Women's Lacrosse Moves to Seventh in IWLCA Poll

3/30/2026 10:30:00 AM

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — After another ranked win, this time over a top-10 opponent, the ESU women's lacrosse team moved up to seventh in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Poll, the organization announced Monday morning.

Opening the season ranked 14th, the Warriors have been on a steady climb during their 11-0 start. The last time ESU defeated five ranked opponents was 2022, sitting one win shy of tying the program record set by the 2017 and 2018 teams. Additionally, ESU tied its record for longest winning streak to open a season with its most recent win over Shepherd last Saturday. The Warriors can break that record next Saturday against Kutztown, while also tie its mark for longest overall winning streak, which was also set in 2017.

The Warriors have been led by dominant performances all across the field, headlined by Sadie Kauffman. The three-time PSAC East Athlete of the Week this year leads Division II with 75 points and 56 goals, reaching 200 career points in a ten-point outing over No. 10 West Chester last Wednesday. Alongside Kauffman, Paige Moreland and Jolee Roth both rank in the top 15 nationally for assists, with Moreland's 30 leading the team for fifth-most in Division II, and Roth's 26 being the 13th-most. Kauffman and Moreland were also each named IWLCA Offensive Athletes of the Week at different points in the year.

On the defensive end, the Warriors have been backstopped by some of the best goalkeeping in Division II, posting a .582 team save percentage, the third-best mark in the country. Abby Simonetti is coming off consecutive PSAC East Defensive Athletes of the Week, while Madison McBride has also stepped up, making a career-high eight saves for her first win against the Golden Rams. In front of ESU's tandem, the Warriors have four defenders averaging over one caused turnover per game, led by Molly Atwell's 2.1.

ESU has six games remaining on its schedule for the regular season, with three games at home and three on the road. Next up is a home matchup against No. 16 Kutztown, which the Warriors defeated 16-6 on March 11 at Kutztown in their conference-opener. Game time is set for noon on Saturday, April 4, at Whitenight Field.
