LOCK HAVEN – On Monday, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced that the East Stroudsburg University field hockey was picked third in the preseason poll.
Defending conference and national champion Shippensburg earned four of the 10 first-place votes. West Chester received two first-place votes for second, the Warriors were slated third with a pair of first-place votes, followed by Kutztown in fourth with two first-place tallies. Millersville (5th), Bloomsburg (6th), Mansfield (7th), IUP (8th), Slippery Rock (9th) and Mercyhurst (10th) rounded out the poll.
In 2021, the Warriors went 16-5 overall and 9-1 in the conference, advancing to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.
ESU returns a trio of All-PSAC selections in graduate student Morgan Mesenbrink (7 goals, 3 assists), senior Lia Parker (4 goals, 5 assists) and senior Nicole Krozser (6 goals, 2 assists). Junior Amy Supey is back in goal for the Warriors after starting all 21 games a season ago, posting 57 saves, a .760 save percentage and eight shutouts (four solo).
Sandy Miller, who led ESU to the 2015 PSAC and NCAA Division II championships, enters her 38th season as head coach.
ESU eyes a seventh consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament as the Warriors begin the 2022 slate on Friday, September 1 against Saint Thomas Aquinas at Whitenight Field.
