Volleyball Falls to IUP and Jefferson

EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg Volleyball team wrapped up their two-day tri-match by dropping a pair of 3-1 matches to IUP (20-25, 25-23, 21-25, 16-25) and Jefferson (25-19, 23-25, 17-25, 12-25) on Saturday inside Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Warriors fall to 2-2 on the season while IUP improved to 2-0 and Jefferson to 1-1.

Notables vs. IUP
  • Kaylee LoPresto finished just shy of a double-double with a game-high 16 kills to go along with nine digs. Claire Choloux tallied nine kills while Sydney Lewellin added five.
  • Makayla Baca posted 16 digs in the opener while Makaela McComas (14) and Lewellin (12) each recorded double figures in assists
  • ESU recorded six aces led by McComas with four
  • The Crimson Hawks outhit the Warriors, .236 (49 kills, 19 errors) to .165 (43 kills, 22 errors)
How it Happened vs. IUP
  • IUP jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set, but the Warriors battled back to get within one point on several occasions (5-4, 6-5, 7-6, 9-8, 10-9), but not before the Crimson Hawks stretched their advantage to 15-11. As the teams traded points, ESU got as close as three with the score at 18-15, but IUP maintained their edge over the Warriors, closing out the frame at 25-20 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
  • Similar to the opening set, IUP and ESU traded points but not before the Crimson Hawks used a 4-0 spurt to pull ahead 13-8. However, the Warriors answered right back by scoring nine of the next 13 points to trim IUP's lead to 18-16. ESU carried that momentum through the rest of the set, using a 4-0 run to grab a 20-18 before ultimately taking the set, 25-23, to even the match at 1-1.
  • The Crimson Hawks responded to begin the third set, jumping out to a 7-3 advantage before the Warriors rallied to pull within one at 8-7. IUP returned to form over the next 15 points, outscoring the Warriors 10-5 to stretch their lead to 18-12. ESU answered with a 9-2 run of their own to go ahead 21-20, but not before the Crimson Hawks scored the final five points to secure a 25-21 set three win and a 2-1 lead in the match.
  • It was all IUP to begin the fourth set as the Crimson Hawks built an eight-point lead at 14-6. The Warriors battled back to get within four at 17-13 but IUP closed out the frame on a 8-3 spurt to capture the 3-1 win with a 25-16 set four victory.
Notables vs. Jefferson
  • LoPresto notched a double-double in the final match of the weekend with 10 kills and 10 digs while Choloux added seven kills and 10 digs
  • McComas dished out 16 assists and Lewelling tallied nine
  • The Warriors had three players in double figure digs led by Baca with 15
  • Making her collegiate debut today, Emma Summerfield totaled four aces
How it Happened vs. Jefferson
  • Jefferson raced out to an 8-4 lead to begin the first set, but the Warriors rattled off a 10-2 run to go ahead 14-10. As the teams traded points, the Rams got as close two, but ESU scored six of the next nine points to stretch their advantage to 20-15. The teams swapped points the remaining of the set with ESU ultimately earing a 25-19 set one win.
  • With the score tied at 8-8 to open the second set, ESU took advantage of a 6-2 run to go in front 14-10. The teams traded the next eight points to make the frame 18-14 in favor of ESU, but the Rams caught fire, scoring 11 of the next 16 points, which included a 6-0 run to secure a 25-23 set two victory and even the match at 1-1.
  • The Rams carried that momentum over into the third set, grabbing a 10-5 lead before the Warriors went on a 5-1 spurt to pull within one at 11-10. With Jefferson leading 13-12, the Rams finished off ESU by outscoring them, 12-5, to take the frame 25-17 as well as a 2-1 advantage in the match.
  • After ESU opened the final set by taking a 3-0 lead, Jefferson answered with a 10-1 run to grab a 10-4 edge. The Warriors battled back with a 4-1 spurt to get within three at 11-8 but the Rams turned it on the rest of the way, outscoring ESU 14-4 to capture the 3-1 win with a 25-12 set four victory.
