MANCHESTER, N.H. – After a scoreless first half, the third-ranked East Stroudsburg field hockey team got third quarter goals from graduate student
Morgan Mesenbrink and senior
Hanna Lewis to earn a 2-0 victory over No. 6 Saint Anselm on Saturday at Grappone Stadium.
The Warriors improve to 3-0 while the Hawks slide to 0-3 after playing the #1, #7 and #3 teams in the country to open the season.
Notables
- Mesenbrink broke a scoreless tie three minutes into the second half with a tip-in goal, her first of the season and 12th of career, to give ESU a 1-0 lead
- Lewis stretched ESU's advantage to 2-0 late in the third quarter as she followed up an initial shot with her first goal of the year
- Senior Lia Parker picked up her first assist of the season on the goal from Mesenbrink
- Despite not making a save, junior goalkeeper Amy Supey recorded her first non-combined shutout of the season after playing all 60 minutes. The Warriors have not allowed their opponents to score through the first three games.
- Saint Anselm goalkeeper Mackenzie McConnell kept the Hawks close with 11 saves
- ESU held an edge in shots (15-1), shots on goal (13-0) and penalty corners (15-3)
How it Happened
33:00 | The Warriors were finally able to get on the board just three minutes into the second half as a pass sent to the front of the net by Parker was tipped inside the left post by Mesenbrink to put ESU ahead 1-0.
41:35 | After a flurry of Warriors' shots were saved, Lewis followed it up by lofting the ball over the Hawks' goalkeeper into the back of the net to stretch ESU's edge to 2-0.
