No. 3 Field Hockey Tops Pace Behind Five Different Goal Scorers

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The third-ranked East Stroudsburg field hockey had five different players score a goal en route to a 5-0 shutout victory over Pace on Tuesday afternoon at Peter X. Finnerty Field.

The Warriors start the season 4-0 for the third time in the last four seasons while the Setters fall to 2-2.

ESU remained third in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll, receiving one first-place vote.

Notables
  • In the closing minutes of the first period, junior Lisa Larsson found the back of the net for the first time in her career to give ESU a 1-0 lead
  • Julia Cooper did it all to record her second goal of the season as the freshman caused a turnover before taking the ball through the teeth of the Pace defense to put ESU ahead 2-0
  • Junior Nicole Krozser scored her team-leading third of the year to put the Warriors up 3-0 on a pass from senior Lia Parker, who tallied her second assist of the season
  • Senior Morgan Mesenbrink scored a goal for the second straight game with just 15 seconds remaining in the third period
  • Senior Madison Kline capped off the 5-0 win for the Warriors by collecting her first goal of the year with roughly three minutes to go in the contest
  • Junior goalkeepers Amy Supey and Emma Valinote combined to notch ESU's fourth consecutive shutout as the duo each made three saves
  • Along with Supey & Valinote, the Warriors' defense has stifled their opponents through the first four games, holding them scoreless which is the longest such streak to open a campaign
  • Pace goalkeeper Alina Buerger made an impressive 18 saves
  • ESU outpaced the Setters in shots (32-8), shots on goal (23-7) and penalty corners (13-11)
  • In her 38th season, head coach Sandy Miller collected her 463rd career victory, needing 24 more to move into third all time in Division II
How it Happened
12:58 | After an initial shot by Jady van Gils looked to be sailing wide of the net, Larsson got a stick on it to save it from going out of bounds before firing a shot into the left corner of the goal to put the Warriors ahead 1-0

27:31 | With the Setters looking to get the ball out of their half of the field, Cooper intercepted a pass before dribbling through a number of Pace defenders and firing a shot the snuck in the right side of the cage to give ESU a 2-0 advantage

29:06 | Less than two minutes later, Parker carried the ball inside the right side of the shooting circle before blasting a pass to front the of the net where Krozser was able to deflect it in for the Warriors third goal of the half

44:45 | As the clock ticked down in the third quarter, Mesenbrink raced towards the goal but as she was cut off by the Pace defender, the senior circled to her right to let off a shot into the back of the net giving ESU a 4-0 cushion

56:69 | On one of their last penalty corners of the game, the Warriors converted as Breen dished off the entry pass to her left for a wide open Kline, who crushed a bouncing shot into the back of the net to cap off a 5-0 victory for ESU
