EAST STROUDSBURG – Back at Koehler Fieldhouse for the first time in nearly three weeks, the East Stroudsburg University volleyball team coasted to a 3-0 sweep of Holy Family on Thursday night. The set scores were 25-14, 25-16 and 25-19.
Playing their final non-conference match of the season, the Warriors improve to 6-7 overall while the Tigers drop to 3-9.
Notables vs. Holy Family
- Freshman Anna Coulter recorded a game-high eight kills while juniors Claire Choloux and Kaylee LoPresto each had seven
- Freshman Sydney Lewellin (16) and sophomore Makaela McComas (13) each dished out double-digit assists
- Junior Makayla Baca and Choloux led the match with 12 digs a piece
- The Warriors outhit Holy Family by a wide margin of .241 (34 kills, 13 errors) to .093 (25 kills, 17 errors). ESU came out on fire in the first set, recording a .348 hitting percentage on 11 kills and three errors
- As a team, the Warriors served up 11 aces, led by Baca with five while sophomore Taylor Haan and McComas each notched a trio
- ESU held the advantage in blocks (7-3) and aces (11-2)
How it Happened vs. Holy Family
- With the score tied at 6-6 to begin the first set, the Warriors mounted an 8-0 run to grab a 14-6 lead. ESU cruised through the rest of the set, with the Tigers cutting their deficit to no less than six as the Warriors secured the 25-14 set one victory for a 1-0 lead in the match.
- The Tigers answered to open the second set, racing out in front 5-1 before stretching their advantage to 7-4. ESU answered with a 7-0 run which included a pair of aces from Hann to jump in front 10-7. Holy Family got cut their deficit to one with two kills but not until the Warriors went back up 18-11, after scoring eight of the next 10 points. The Warriors would go on to outscore Holy Family, 7-5, to earn a 25-16 set two win for a 2-0 edge in the match.
- The final set opened with the teams knotted at 2-2 before ESU went on a 5-1 run to build a 7-3 lead. Out of a Holy Family timeout, the Tigers proceeded to out pace the Warriors, 8-5, trimming ESU's lead to 12-11. The Warriors responded by scoring six of the next nine points, stretching their advantage to 18-14, which forced the Tigers into their second timeout. The teams would trade points the rest of the way as ESU closed out the match, 25-19, for the sweep.
