Kotula’s Fifth Goal Guides ESU to Draw with Millersville

EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University women's soccer midfielder Rebecca Kotula registered her fifth goal of the season in the 72nd minute, helping ESU to a 1-1 tie with Millersville on Wednesday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

With the tie, the Warriors (5-1-2, 3-1-2) take sole possession of third-place in the PSAC East. The Marauders are now 1-3-2, 1-4-2 in PSAC East conference action.

After a Warrior own goal in the 68th minute, Kotula rocketed a shot from Teagan Marshall off the cross bar and into the side of the net for the game-tying goal.

  • Kotula found the back of the net for the fifth time in eight contests on the year, and retook the PSAC lead for points with 14 in the process. The Wyomissing High School graduate tallied six shots and three shots on goal.
  • Marshall's helper was the first of the season. She now has three points after scoring a goal against Felician in ESU's second game of the season.

How It Happened

  • 68' | After 67 minutes of scoreless action, a 'Ville corner kick sent in by Rachel Leisher found a head of a Warrior. With hopes of sending the ball above the cross bar, the ball unfortunately was directed into the back of the net.
  • 72' | Less than five minutes later, ESU tallied the equalizer. Mikayla Moats found Marshall on a throw-in. Marshall sent a centering pass to Kotula in open space near midfield about 25 yards out. Kotula ripped a deep shot to the upper right corner. The 'Ville keeper was able to get a hand on the shot, but the ball ricocheted off the crossbar and into the net.

Up Next

  • ESU returns to Eiler-Martin Stadium this weekend, hosting first-place West Chester (7-0, 6-0) on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
