WASHINGTON – Despite recording more shots and shots on goal, the East Stroudsburg University men's soccer team was defeated by the University of District of Columbia by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon at RFK Field.
The Warriors (1-3) now turn their head to conference play on Saturday against Shepherd. The Firebirds (3-1-1) improve to 3-1-1 to begin the season.
UDC posted a goal in each half, finding the back of the net in the 26th and 64th minute of play.
Notables
- As aforementioned, ESU led in shots (13-7) and shots on goal (10-6), while UDC held a slim advantage in corner kicks (6-5).
- Bradley Turocy, Stefen Melekos and Nathan Bradway each posted multiple shots on goal for the Warriors. Tervora Paone, Hubert Herrera and Ignasi Cucurella also tallied a shot on goal.
- Freshman goalkeeper Brayden Evans made three saves on the afternoon.
- Firebirds' goalkeeper Javier Abadia Torres recorded eight saves on ESU's 10 shots on goal.
- Despite the loss, ESU still leads the all-time series against the Firebirds by a mark of 12-4-1.
How It Happened
- 26' | On a corner kick, UDC was able to gain possession. Ignacio Pericet was able to handle a pass by Ian Luque Sanchez and fire a shot at a crowded net for the first goal of the contest.
- 64' | Axel Gamez took possession and sprinted ahead with a Warrior defender close behind. Gamez sent a crossing pass to Kenec Elvir, who deposited a shot the far left corner for the second and final UDC goal.
