FROSTBURG, MD. – The top-ranked East Stroudsburg University field hockey team got back on track as the Warriors blanked Frostburg State, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.
Jady van Gils, who was credited with the fifth game-winner of her career, scored her team-high eighth goal of the season at the 42:53 mark in the third quarter to ultimately win the game for ESU.
Playing their final non-conference game, the Warriors improved to 11-2 on the season while the Bobcats slipped to 8-6 on the year after battling their sixth ranked opponent.
In today's victory, ESU held their opponent without a single shot, marking the third time this season the Warriors have accomplished the feat.
Notables
- Junior Allyson Forman (2) and senior Madison Kline (3) combined for five shots on goal for the Warriors
- Seniors Hanna Lewis and Grace Lesh each forced the Bobcats' Zoe Barnes to make a save as the sophomore finished with seven
- Back-to-back PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week Amy Supey notched her third shutout of the season and 14th of her career despite not recording a save
- In the victory, the Warriors outpaced Frostburg State in shots (16-0), shots on goal (8-0) and penalty corners (10-0)
- Sandy Miller continued her pursuit of 500 career wins as the 39th-year head coach collected her 490th victory this afternoon
- Receiving 16 first-place votes on Tuesday, the Warriors remained No. 1 in the NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll for the fifth straight week
- The Warriors move to 3-0 all-time against Frostburg State and are now 36-13 when ranked as the No. 1 team in NCAA Division II
