EAST STROUDSBURG – Trailing 1-0 after the first quarter, the second-ranked East Stroudsburg University field hockey team scored five unanswered goals as the Warriors knocked off top-ranked Shippensburg, 5-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
The Warriors now control their own destiny in the PSAC after moving to 12-2 on the season and 5-1 in the conference, while the Raiders dropped to 12-3 overall and 6-1 in the league.
Notables
- Madison Kline tied the game at 1-1 at the 18:37 mark in the second quarter as the senior unleashed a blast for her seventh goal of the season
- Nicole Krozser continued her knack for scoring game-winners as the graduate student registered the ninth of her career less than two minutes after Kline's goal. Krozser found the back of the cage for the second time of the game at 42:59.
- With the game nearing halftime, Jady van Gils continued the offensive onslaught for the Warriors as the junior delivered a backhanded shot to score a goal with four seconds left on the clock
- Kerry Kaufman continued to make an impact in her second season as the sophomore got her stick on a loose ball less than three minutes into the third quarter for her fourth goal of the year
- Seniors Maddy Barbush and Hanna Lewis collected their fourth and second assists of the season respectively
- Krozser and van Gils are now tied for the team lead with nine goals a piece
- Hannah White scored the Raiders lone goal 51 seconds into the game while Emma Albee (2) and Lindsay Tripodo (8) combined for 10 saves. Shippensburg's Plinke Hillen was credited with three defensive saves.
- Amy Supey (12-2) saved one of the two first quarter shots on goal to collect her 48th career victory
- Following a dominating third quarter, the Warriors finished with the advantage in shots (26-8), shots on goal (18-2) and penalty corners (11-7)
- Sandy Miller continued her pursuit of 500 career victories as the 39th-year head coach collected her 491st win this afternoon
- On Tuesday, the Warriors dropped to No. 2 in the NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll for the first time this season but still received six first-place votes compared to 12 for the Raiders
- Additionally, ESU was listed in the first edition of the NCAA Division Atlantic Regional rankings which were released today in alphabetical order
- With the victory, the Warriors improved to 8-22 all-time when facing the No. 1 ranked team
- The back and forth continued in the all-time series as the Warriors moved to 26-38-2 against Shippensburg following their second straight win
