EAST STROUDSBURG – The second-ranked East Stroudsburg University field hockey team continued its winning ways as the Warriors shutout Mercyhurst, 3-0, on Saturday morning from Saxton Stadium.
Using a pair of fourth quarter goals to pull away, the Warriors improved their record to 13-2 overall and 6-1 in the PSAC while the Lakers dropped to 2-12 on the season and 0-7 in the conference.
ESU continued to dominate the all-time series against Mercyhurst as the Warriors improved to 26-1 overall and have now not allowed a goal to the Lakers in the last six meetings.
In today's victory, the Warriors held Mercyhurst without a single shot, marking the fourth time this season the Warriors kept their opponent at bay.
Notables
- Nicole Krozser broke a scoreless tie at the 25:37 mark in the second quarter as the graduate student redirected an initial pass from fellow classmate Lia Parker to make the score 1-0 in favor of ESU. Krozser registered her team-leading 10th goal of the season while Parker collected her team-high sixth assist.
- Senior Madison Kline converted a penalty stroke at the 52:13 mark in the fourth quarter for her eighth goal of the campaign
- A little more than a minute later (53:18), freshman Minke Klijn capped of the scoring for ESU with her fourth collegiate goal
- Despite not facing a shot, Amy Supey (13-2) registered her fourth solo shutout of the season and the sixth of the year for ESU
- ESU held the edge in shots (28-0), shots on goal (21-0) and penalty corners (22-2)
- Sandy Miller moved closer to 500 career victories as the 39th-year head coach tailed her 492nd win
- On Tuesday, the Warriors dropped to No. 2 in the NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll for the first time this season but still received six first-place votes compared to 12 for the Shippensburg, who ESU defeated earlier this week, 5-1
- Additionally, ESU was listed in the first edition of the NCAA Division Atlantic Regional rankings which were released on Wednesday in alphabetical order
