#1 Field Hockey Handles Slippery Rock For Fifth Straight Win on Homecoming

EAST STROUDSBURG – The top-ranked East Stroudsburg University field hockey team cruised to a 4-1 victory over Slippery Rock in a conference game on Homecoming Saturday at Whitenight Field.

The Warriors, who have now defeated the Rock (2-9, 0-3) in the last 11 meetings and 33 times in the last 34 games, stretched their win streak to five while moving to 10-1 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in the PSAC.

With today's victory, ESU improved their record in the all-time series to an impressive 43-6-1 over Slippery Rock.

Notables
  • Junior Jady van Gils and sophomore Kerry Kaufman combined for six points as the duo each had a goal and an assist. van Gils is now tied for the team-lead with seven goals while Kaufman registered her third of the season.
  • Senior Lisa Larsson got the scoring started for ESU with her second goal of the year at 1:08 mark in the first quarter
  • In her 16th career game, Bella Viruet notched her first collegiate goal as the sophomore redirected an initial shot from Madison Kline, who collected her fourth assist, at the 37:35 point in the third period
  • Reigning PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week Amy Supey (10-1) made one save in 60 minutes
  • The Warriors dominated possession for a majority of the contest while holding huge advantages in shots (27-3), shots on goal (15-2) and penalty corners (20-1)
  • Since a 4-3 loss to Pace in overtime on September 13, the Warriors have outscored their opponents 19-3 and recorded two shutouts
  • Sandy Miller continued to near her 500th career victory as the 39th-year head coach sits at 489 after this afternoon's win
  • ESU is now 35-12 all-time when ranked as the No. 1 in NCAA Division II, dating back to 2004
