WEST CHESTER, Pa. – In its final game of the season, the East Stroudsburg University men's soccer team recorded a pair of early second-half goals and held on to defeat West Chester, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Rockwell Field.
The Warriors close its first season under head coach
Tom Mustac with a record of 8-3-6 and 4-3-5 in the PSAC East. The Golden Rams (10-4-3, 7-3-2 PSAC East) earn the No. 3 seed in the PSAC Tournament and opens the postseason at No. 2 Bloomsburg on Monday at 5:00 p.m.
Notables
- The Warriors were led by seniors Cameron Wheller and Bradley Turocy, who each recorded a goal, Wheeler opened the scoring with his first goal of the season, with AJ Rivera providing the assist.
- Turocy was able to get a head on a beautiful pass from Ignasi Cucurella Tuset, who provided the assist. The goal for Turocy was his fifth of the season.
- West Chester's Maksym Komperda found the back of the net, with Landon Wenger posting an assist on the play.
- West Chester held slim edges in shots (11-9) and shots on goal (6-5), while ESU led 5-3 in saves. Seven yellow cards were issued, with ESU totaling five.
- In goal, Brayden Evans made two saves in the first half. Helgi Hermannsson made three saves for the Warriors. Aiden Hoopes played the final 2:40 of the contest.
- In 2023, ESU was led offensively by Colby Raymond, who posted 21 points on nine goals and three assists. Cucurella Tuset was right behind him with 20 points, registering seven goals and six assists. Turocy added five goals and three assists for 14 points. ESU outscored its opponents 38-19 on the season.
How It Happened
- 89' | WCU was able to avoid the shutout by registering a goal with less than a minute and a half remaining. Wenger found Komperda with a through ball, as he took a quick shot and beat Hoopes to the far side.
