Volleyball Remains Perfect in PSAC East After Sweeping Millersville for 16th Consecutive Win

EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University volleyball team remained perfect in the PSAC East and finished off the season sweep of Millersville as the Warriors defeated the Marauders in straight set on Friday evening inside Koehler Fieldhouse. The set scores were 25-19, 25-16, 25-9.

The Warriors (19-5, 11-0 PSAC East) have now knocked off the Marauders (9-16, 3-8) in five of the last six meetings and extended their win streak to 16 consecutive matches.

During the 16-match win streak, ESU have defeated 13 opponents in straight sets including the last eight the Warriors have faced.

Prior to tonight's match, Ava Hunt was presented with the Ann Gladfelter-McGinnis scholarship as the sophomore is a player who presents leadership, passion, and is a hard working student-athlete. Gladfelter (now McGinnis) is still the only volleyball player in school history to earn All-American status and helped ESU capture the program's first PSAC title in 1979.

Notables vs. Millersville
  • Back-to-back PSAC Athlete of the Week Anna Coulter delivered another monster performance as the sophomore finished with 12 kills on a .706 hitting percentage, to go along with four digs, four blocks, two aces and an assist
  • Senior Kaylee LoPresto added double digit kills with 11 while adding five digs and a pair of assists
  • Junior Taylor Haan continued to impact the court in different ways as the Phoenix native totaled 30 assists, four kills, three aces, three digs and two blocks
  • Graduate student Claire Choloux recorded three kills, eight digs and trio of aces while senior Sydney Stone contributed six kills
  • Making her second consecutive start, Hunt finished with four kills, a pair of blocks and a dig
  • Senior Makayla Baca and junior Makaela McComas combined for 15 digs and four assists. With seven more digs, Baca moved closer to 1,000 for her ESU career with 857 and counting.
  • Emma Ludwig notched a double-double on 22 assists and 10 digs for the Marauders while Alex Nava recorded a match-high 14 kills

How it Happened vs. Millersville
  • ESU grabbed a commanding 8-3 lead to begin the match and pushed the advantage to 12-6 before a Millersville timeout. The Marauders produced a kill out of the break, but the Warriors responded with a 10-1 spurt to extend the lead to 22-8. ESU ultimately closed out the set 26-16 for a 1-0 edge over Millersville.
     
  • With the score tied at 1-1, the Warriors ripped off eight consecutive points to pull ahead 9-1. Millersville chipped away at the deficit as the Marauders made the score 13-9, until the Warriors produced six of the next seven points to extend the lead back to 19-10. The Marauders cut the gap to five points at 21-16, 22-17 and 23-18 but the ESU held on to win the set 25-19 to secure a 2-0 advantage in the match.
     
  • Millersville was ahead 3-2 to start the final set, but the Warriors settled in with a 6-0 spurt that included four kills to take an 8-3 lead. ESU kept its foot on the gas the rest of the war as the Warriors scored 17 of the final 22 points to complete the sweep, 25-9.
