Five Warriors Land on CSC Football Academic All-District Team

EAST STROUDSBURG – College Sports Communicators announced on Tuesday afternoon that East Stroudsburg University football student-athletes Daryn Blackwell, Raymond Christas, AJ Delgado, John Siggins and Kyler Wuestner were honored on the Academic All-District Team.

The 2023 Academic All-District® Football teams, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Blackwell, a William V. Campbell Trophy Semifinalist, graduated with his bachelor's degree in sports management from ESU in 2022 and a master's degree in management and leadership in sport management in 2023, is currently pursuing an additional master's degree in sports administration. He graduated with a 3.77 GPA as an undergraduate and earned Summa Cum Laude honors with his master's degree. A four-year starter, he closed his Warrior career with 104 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, an interception and four fumble recoveries.The Toms River, N.J. native is a rare two-sport athlete, serving as a captain for the ESU men's track and field team as a three-time all-conference honoree and is a two-time all-region selection. Between football and track and field, Blackwell has now been honored by College Sports Communicators on four occasions for Academic All-District accolades.  

Christas, an All-PSAC East Second Team selection at center, earns his second CSC Academic All-District honor in 2023. A team-captain, Christas helped the Warriors to a top-three offense in the PSAC in scoring, rushing, passing efficiency and redzone efficiency. He helped protect three successful quarterbacks in Charlie McKee, Sean McTaggart and Aaron Tobias, helping the Warriors to its first NCAA Playoff appearance since 2009. The health and physical education major holds a 3.95 GPA.

Delgado, ESU's long snapper, was a major contributor to the Warriors' successful special teams unit. He helped Devin Bartholomew successfully convert 5-7 of his field goals, along with a mark od 47-51 mark on point-after-touchdown attempts. On punts, the Monmouth transfer contributed to Bartholomew ranking second in the PSAC  in average punt and third in net punting. In the classroom, the history major holds a GPA of 3.87.

Siggins is named to the CSC Academic All-District Team for the second consecutive season. He was named to the All-PSAC East Second Team after leading the Warriors with 442 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. The big-play threat averaged 15.24 yards per catch in 2023, recording two touchdowns against Millersville and California (Pa.). A nursing major, Siggins holds a 3.55 GPA.

Wuestner earned his first CSC Academic All-District honor, helping contribute alongside Christas on the successful Warrior offensive line. The graduate student guard from Hummelstown, Pa. graduated with a degree in health and physical education last spring and is currently pursuing a master's degree in professional and secondary education. He holds a 3.87 GPA.

To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 and compete in 90 percent of the institution's games or must start in at least 66 percent of contests.

Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced Jan. 23, 2024.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are financially supported in part by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is financially supported in part through the NAIA governance structure.

The Warriors completed the 2023 season with a 9-3 overall record, earning a trip to NCAA Playoffs for the first time since 2009.
