van Gils becomes the second player in ESU program history to earn the honors

GENEVA, N.Y.Jady van Gils continued to accumulate accolades as the junior was named the 2023 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Atlantic Region Player of the Year, the organization announced on Thursday.

van Gils becomes the second player in ESU history to earn NFHCA Atlantic Region of the Year honors, joining Ally Roth, who earned the accolades back in 2015. The NFHCA Regional Player of the Year awards were first issued in 2010.

The Amersfoort, Netherlands native registered 25 points, the second most on the team, with 10 goals and five assists. As a midfielder, van Gils made an impact on both the offensive and defensive ends as she ranked ninth in the PSAC in points (1.19), 10th in goals (0.48) and 13th in assists (0.31) per game.

Thursday's award marked her fourth of the 2023 postseason as van Gils was previously selected as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Athlete of the year, the PSAC Tournament MVP and to the All-PSAC First Team.
