EAST STROUDSBURG – After several uncharacteristic performances over the past five contests, the East Stroudsburg University men's basketball team got back on track with a dominant 95-70 win over PSAC East foe Mansfield on Wednesday evening inside Decker Gymnasium.
The Warriors (16-5, 10-5 PSAC) sweep the Mounties (5-14, 4-11 PSAC) in the season-series and have now won 10 consecutive matchups against MU.
Carlos Pepin led ESU with 19 points and picked up his 1,000th-career point with his first field goal of the first half with a layup at the 10:11 mark. He also posted five rebounds, two assists and two steals while making 8-of-10 field goal attempts.
Notables
- Joining Pepin in double-figures in points were Jaelen McGlone and Justin Paz, who both tallied 12 points, while David Duda Jr. recorded 11 points on three 3-pointers and Mike Millsip, who posted an even 10 points.
- McGlone and Zach Sabol distributed three assists each, while Tyshawn Trail earned three steals in just nine minutes of action.
- The Warriors found its stroke after struggling from the floor the past few contests, shooting 52.9 percent, 38.9 percent from the 3-point land and made 16-of-20 free-throw attempts.
- In the stat columns, ESU led the game in rebounds (36-34), assists (17-12), points off turnovers (30-15), bench points (40-12) points in the paint (48-28) and had seven less turnovers (13-20).
- With the win, the Warriors remain deadlocked with West Chester Millersville and Lock Haven for second place in the PSAC East, with all four teams having identical 10-5 records in conference play.
- Pepin becomes the 33rd member of the ESU men's basketball 1,000-point club. He is the first Warrior to join the club since Nick Giordano tallied his 1,000th point on February 27. 2018 against Kutzown. He has now registered 10-plus points in 20 of 21 contests on the season.
- Of ESU's 16 wins this season, 10 have come by at least 20 points.
How it Happened
- With the Warriors leading 18-14 near the midway point in the first half, the Warriors scored eight unanswered points on its way to a 17-6 run to take a 34-20 advantage. Mansfield would finish the first half strong with a 13-7 run, as the Warriors led 41-33 after 20 minutes of action.
- ESU took control in the second half from the gate, starting the half on a 10-0 sprint. Leading by 18 points, ESU's scoreboard advantage fluctuated between 15 and 26 points the rest of the way.
