Miami Shores, Fla. – On the final day of competition during the Warriors' Florida trip, the East Stroudsburg University softball team split the day against Barry University. After winning the first game during their final at-bats, the Warriors fell 5-0 in the second game at Buccaneer Field on Sunday.
The Warriors close their Florida trip with a 2-4 record and return to Pennsylvania with their eyes set on the rest of the season.
Notables
- Abigail Weirich blasted a two-run homer to right field in the top of the seventh inning in game one, driving in Jade Hassler which propelled the Warriors to a 3-2 victory
- In the circle, Paige Zigmund (W, 1-1) threw a complete game, allowing two earned runs on four hits while striking out four.
- In game two, Maddy Pritchard fired 4.1 innings, surrendering four runs (one earned) on three hits. Leigh Ann Jenkins pitched 1.2 innings of relief with two strikeouts.
- Molly Nies finished the day at the plate with a pair of hits and an RBI
How it Happened – Barry U 2, ESU 3
- The game remained scoreless through the first two innings until Nies was able to drive home Denva Shaw-Tait on a triple into right field in the top of the third to give ESU a 1-0 advantage
- ESU held the lead until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Buccaneers drove in two runs using three hits and a pair of steals
- ESU responded in the top of the final inning as Jada Smallwood was walked before Weirich blasted a home run into right field, giving the Warriors a 3-2 lead. Zigmund was able to post a crucial 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the 3-2 win in game one.
How it Happened – Barry U 5, ESU 0
- The game remained scoreless after impressive performances from both pitchers until the bottom of the fourth inning where the Buccaneers would take the lead on a sacrifice fly, giving them a 1-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Buccaneers would score an unearned run on a single up the middle of the field. After a pitching change the Buccaneers were still able to drive in three more runs on two hits, extending the lead to 5-0.
