Center Valley – It was a memorable Thursday afternoon at the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization's annual awards banquet, as East Stroudsburg University's
Carlos Pepin and
Ryan Weise were each named the LVSCBOs' Pete Nevins Player of the
Year on the campus of DeSales University.
Additionally, Pepin and Weise were honored on the LVSCBO's Team of the Year for the second consecutive season. Weise shared Player of the Year honors with DeSales' Megan Bealer and Moravian's Tessa Zamolyi.
Pepin continues to bring in accolades for his impressive graduate student season. He was named to the Bevo Francis Top-50 Watch List on Wednesday, which honors the top-50 players at the NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA levels. On the season, Pepin ranks fourth in the conference in both scoring (17.5 ppg) and rebounding (9.2 rpg), while ranking sixth in field goal percentage and 10th in steals among 18 teams. He has posted at least 12 points in 25 of 26 games on the season and ranks second in the league and seventh nationally in double-doubles with 12 on the season.
The Lodi, N.J. native has been named PSAC East Athlete of the Week on three occasions this season and looks to become just the second Warrior to earn PSAC East Athlete of the Year on multiple occasions.
Weise becomes just the third player in program history to receive the award, joining Alyssa Antolick (2006-07) and Tiffany Lapotosky (2019-20).
The graduate student is putting together a career season by averaging 15.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 2.0 steals and 0.5 blocks in 26 games. The Allentown, N.J. native is shooting 41.7% from the field, 42.0% from beyond the arc and 80.6% at the free throw line.
Weise paces the PSAC in three pointers made (81) and three point percentage, third in total assists (127), fourth in assists per game, ninth in total steals (51), 10th in points per game and 11th in steals per game.
Among national rankings, Weise is third in three pointers made, 14th in total assists, 21st in assists per game and 28th in three point percentage.
Weise garnered a trio of honors earlier in the season as she was named the PSAC East Athlete of the Week (11/14), the D2CIDA National Player of the Week (11/15) and to the November DII Women's Basketball All-Stats Starting Five.
With a three-pointer in the first quarter against Kutztown on January 23, Weise set the program's single season record with her 64th make and. As of February 16, Weise's 142 career three pointers ranks tied for third all-time in school history and 223 assists is tied for 16th.
In the classroom, Weise recorded a 4.0 grade point average while pursuing her master's in Management & Leadership
The LVSCBO is made up local Lehigh Valley NCAA Division II Institutions ESU and Kutztown, along with NCAA Division III's Cedar Crest, DeSales, Moravian and Muhlenberg.
The Player of the Year awards were renamed in 2007 in honor of Pete Nevins, ESU's sports information director from 1969-2002 and the founder of the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball organization.
Both the ESU men and women return to Koehler Fieldhouse for the final time during the regular season on Saturday as the Warriors host Shepherd on Senior Day. The women tipoff at 1:00 p.m. followed, by the ESU and Shepherd men at approximately 3:00 p.m.
