UNIVERSITY PARK – The East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team added two additional PSAC qualifying times as the Warriors got their final preparations in at the Penn State Tune Up on Friday afternoon at the Multi-Sport Facility & Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
Recording conference qualifying marks in the final meet of the regular season for the Warriors was Liam Beifus (60m hurdles) and Miguel Charlery (200m).
ESU heads to Gerhard Fieldhouse next week for the PSAC Indoor Championships with 26 different student-athletes scheduled to compete in their respective events.
Running Highlights
After recording the sixth fastest time in the 60m hurdles prelims, Beifus returned to take fifth in the finals after crossing the line in a PSAC qualifying mark of 8.73.
Making his ESU debut, Charlery was .01 seconds off a conference qualifying mark in the 60m dash as he recorded a time 7.11 in the prelims before returning to place eighth in the finals at 7.19.
Charlery broke through with a conference qualifying time in the 200m as the Saint Lucia native finished in 22.48 to take fifth place while Justin Gockley was ninth at a personal-best time of 22.94.
In the 400m, Jaylen Morrison clocked a personal-best time of 50.94 on his way to taking fourth, while Beifus came back to take 10th in the event with a personal-best mark of 51.87.
ESU wrapped up the day on the track with a fifth place finish in the 4x400m as the combination of Morrison, Emmanuel Gitonga, Gockley and Nasir Kyle posted a time of 3:36.00
Field Event Highlights
In the weight throw, Josh Meshach recorded an 11th place finish after the freshman recorded a mark of 11.77m (38-7 ½) on his final attempt.
Sophomore William Mattei Jr. took ninth in the shot put with a throw of 13.54m (44-5 ¼) on his third go around.
Daniel Smith was just shy of the conference qualifying mark in the triple jump as the freshman leaped 12.75m (41-10) on his way to a sixth place finish.
