LEWISBURG – Freshman Donavan Anderson captured the conference title in the triple jump and the East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team recorded a third place finish overall as the 2023 PSAC Indoor Championships wrapped up on Sunday at Gerhard Fieldhouse.
Following a runner-up finish in the long jump yesterday, Anderson returned to the sandpit for the triple jump where he became just the second individual to win a PSAC title in program history and first since 2010. Drew Miller won the event for the Warriors in three consecutive seasons from 2008-10.
ESU finished third in the team standings for the fifth time in the last seven times the championships were contested as the Warriors totaled 73.5 points.
Also securing top-eight finishes for the Warriors on the final day was Caleb Carney (2nd – Heptathlon), Daniel Daley (8th – Heptathlon), Kobe Jenkins (3rd – 60m hurdles), Anderson (8th – 60m), Miguel Charlery (5th – 200m), Raul Esteves (6th – 200m), Brian McGarrity (8th – 3000m), the 4x400m relay team (4th), Aaron Sanchez (4th – High Jump), Daniel Smith (6th – High Jump), Cole Gorham (6th – Shot Put) and Isaac Almoney (8th – shot put) in their respective events.
Heptathlon Highlights
As the trio of Warriors closed out the heptathlon, Carney earned a runner-up finish with the third-most points in school history at 4701, while Daley took eighth with 4282 points, followed by Bryan Rodrigues in 10th with a career-best 4076 points.
ESU started the day with bang as Carney claimed the top spot in the 60m hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.59. Daley finished as the runner-up after crossing the line in 8.61 and Rodrigues took sixth place with a time 8.93.
In the pole vault, Carney cleared the bar at a personal-best height of 3.75m (12-3 ½) on his way to taking fourth, while Rodrigues finished eighth (3.25m – 10-8), followed by Daley in 11th (3.15m – 10-4).
The Warriors finished the heptathlon with the 1000m as Carney crossed the line in a personal-best time of 2:49.40 to take fourth place. Rodrigues finished eighth after clocking a 2:58.29 and Daley was 11th at 3:06.04.
Running Highlights
Jenkins got the championship races started for the Warriors in the 60m hurdles, as the freshman earned a third place finish with a time of 8.37.
Anderson added to his already impressive resume as the freshman captured an eighth place finish in the 60m after crossing the line in 7.10.
The Warriors had a pair of top-eight finishers in the 200m, led by Charlery in fifth after the freshman posted the 10th fastest time in program history at 22.30. Esteves was right behind in sixth place after clocking a time of 22.50.
In the 3000m, McGarrity earned a point for ESU by taking eighth place as the sophomore posted a finishing time of 8:52.23.
ESU finished the day on the track by taking fourth in the 4x400m as the relay squad of Joshua Rand, Ryan Ditty, Emmanuel Gitonga and Charlery ran a 3:24.61.
Field Event Highlights
Anderson was the highlight of the day for the Warriors in the field events as he claimed the top spot in the triple jump after recording a personal-best mark of 15.07m (49-5 ½) on his first attempt of the afternoon.
In the high jump, Sanchez paced the Warriors in a tie for fourth after clearing the bar at 1.93m (6-4) and Smith finished in a tie for sixth after eclipsing a personal-best height of 1.93m (6-4) on his final attempt.
ESU posted a pair of top-eight finishes in the shot put with Gorham coming in sixth after throwing 15.74m (51-7 ¾) and Almoney in eighth with a mark of 15.00m (49-2 ½).

Anderson currently ranks tied for 13th in all of NCAA Division II in the triple jump as well as tied for 16th in the long jump as the National Championships are scheduled for March 10 & 12 in Virginia Beach, Va.
