BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Led by six double-figure scorers, the East Stroudsburg University men's basketball team picked up its third consecutive win with a 96-74 win over Bloomsburg on Monday night inside Nelson Fieldhouse.
The Warriors (18-5, 12-5 PSAC) pick up its third consecutive victory and remain tied with Lock Haven and Millersville for second place in the PSAC East. The Huskies drop to 1-20 and 1-16 in the league with the loss.
David Duda Jr. and Jaelen McGlone each recorded 15 points, while Justin Paz and Carlos Pepin totaled 14 points. Lakeem McAiley registered 14 points, while Mike Millsip rounds out the top scorers with 12 points.
Notables
- Pepin and McAliley led the charge off the glass with seven rebounds each. Millsip added six boards, while Justin Paz distributed five assists. McAliley added four helpers, while Pepin totaled three blocks McGlone and McAliley totaled a pair of steals each.
- Duda Jr. made 5-of-6 attempts from 3-point land, including his first four attempts in the first half. McGlone shot an efficient 6-of-8 from the floor after a strong start to the contest early.
- The contest marks the first time that ESU has totaled six players in double-figures since last season's regular-season finale on Feb. 26, 2022, when ESU defeated West Chester, 100-95, on the road.
- Seven of nine Warriors that made a field goal attempt shot above 50 percent on the evening.
- Bloomsburg was led offensively by a pair of 20-point performers in Jake Nelson (25 points, 10 rebounds) and Louie Wild (20 points). Ash Kemble also reached double-figures with 10 points.
- ESU's shot at a 53.6 clip, marking its best shooting percentage over its past eight outings, since the Warriors shot a season best 61.5 percent at Millersville on Jan. 14.
- The Warriors are now 32-1 in the month of February since the 2017-18 season. Â
- In the all-time series, Bloomsburg now leads, 89-83, as ESU inches closer. Since 2013, the Warriors lead the series by a mark of 16-2, including nine consecutive wins at Nelson Fieldhouse.
How It Happened
- The Warriors started strong the opening tip, starting the contest on a 13-4 run, with McGlone responsible for eight points in the first four-plus minutes.
- ESU continued to drain shots, doubling up the Huskies at 32-16 at the 6:30 mark. Bloomsburg barked back with eight consecutive points to cut the deficit to eight points at 32-24 following the quick surge.
- The Warriors did not allow Bloomsburg closer, outscoring the Huskies 16-9 over the final five minutes of the first half, to take a 48-33 lead into the Nelson Fieldhouse locker room.
- Over the final 20 minutes, Bloomsburg could only get as close as 11 points at 63-52, after outscoring ESU, 19-15, to start the second half. The Warriors settled, scoring the next six points.
- With ESU leading 82-69, the Warriors pressed on the gas late, closing the game on a 14-5 run to take home a 96-74 win down I-80.
