Men’s Track & Field Posts 24 PSAC Automatic Qualifying Marks at Monmouth Spring Opener

LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team posted a strong start to their outdoor season on Friday and Sunday at the Monmouth Spring Opener at Joe Compagni Track at Kessler Stadium.

19 Warriors recorded 24 PSAC automatic qualifying marks and times including, Kobe Jenkins (110m hurdles), Joshua Rand (110m hurdles), Bryan Rodrigues (110m hurdles), Liam Beifus (110m hurdles), Caleb Carney (110m hurdles), Nasir Kyle (110m hurdles), Miguel Charlery (200m), Raul Esteves (200m), Tyler Boone (400m), Aaron Sanchez (high jump), Daniel Daley (high jump), Jack Gorham (long jump), Chris Costa (pole vault), Zach Nissley (javelin), Seth Leonard (javelin), Daryn Blackwell (hammer throw), Cole Gorham (discus, shot put), Isaac Almoney (hammer throw, discus, shot put) and Anthony Voto (hammer throw, discus, shot put).

Additionally, Charlery eclipsed a 40-year-old freshman record in the 200m that was previously held by Pete Wright since 1983.

Running Highlights
In the 200m, Charlery notched a second place finish and clocked the sixth fastest time in program history at 21.62. Esteves took 16th at 22.30 as the duo both had PSAC automatic qualifying times.  

With six Warriors recording PSAC automatic qualifying times in the 110m hurdles, Jenkins led the way as the runner-up after crossing the line in 15.08 and Rand took sixth with a mark of 15.42. Also recording conference times were Rodrigues (12th – 15.79), Beifus (t-14th – 15.83), Carney (t-14th – 15.83) and Kyle (16th – 16.07).

Boone posted a conference qualifying time in the 400m as the sophomore crossed the line in 49.32 to take fifth place.

Returning to run the 400m hurdles, Rand (4th – 58.99) and Kyle (6th – 1:00.88) were just shy of PSAC automatic times but both earned top-six finishes.

Field Event Highlights
Saturday
Capturing first place in the long jump, Jack Gorham posted a personal-best leap and the 10th-best mark in program history at 7.15m (23-5 ½). Daley's busy day continued in the sand pit as the senior took sixth with a jump of 6.47m (21-2 ¾).

Returning to the throws area for day two of competition, Cole Gorham secured a third place finish in the shot put after recording the fourth-best mark in school history at 15.97m (52-4 ¾). Voto rounded out the top-10 with toss of 14.92m (48-11 ½) and Almoney was 13th at 14.42m (47-3 ¾). The trio each posted a PSAC automatic qualifying mark.

On their way PSAC automatic qualifying marks in the high jump, Sanchez cleared the bar at 1.95m (6-4 ¾) to take third and Daley snuck inside the top-10, taking ninth with a height of 1.90m (6-2 ¾).

In the javelin, Nissley secured fourth place finish after notching a throw of 56.86m (186-6) and Leonard captured ninth place with a toss of 53.01m (173-11). The duo both achieved PSAC automatic qualifying status.

Costa carried his momentum over from the indoor season as the freshman posted a PSAC qualifying height of 4.35m (14-3 ¼) on his way to taking fifth.

Friday
With all three Warriors recording conference qualifying throws in the hammer, Blackwell took second place at 52.13m (171-0) and Almoney was fifth with a toss of 51.57m (169-2). Voto rounded out the finishes in 17th with a throw of 44.75m (146-10).

Cole Gorham paced a trio of Warriors in the discus as the sophomore took fifth with a throw of 45.25m (148-5), followed by Almoney in seventh at 43.21m (141-9) and Voto in 12th with a mark of 41.80m.
