Men’s Track & Field Wins Five Events at Millersville Metrics

MILLERSVILLE – The East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team won five events and recorded 11 more PSAC qualifiers at the Millersville Metrics on Saturday at Biemesderfer Stadium.

Notching conference automatic qualifying marks and times for ESU was Miguel Charlery (100m), Raul Esteves (100m), Justin Gockley (100m), Caleb Carney (400m hurdles), Joshua Rand (400m hurdles), Liam Beifus (400m hurdles), Daniel Smith (high jump), Donavan Anderson (long jump), Jack Gorham (triple jump), Will Mattei (shot put) and Daryn Blackwell (discus).

Recording first place finishes for the Warriors was Anderson (long jump), Kobe Jenkins (110m hurdles), Carney (400m hurdles), Micah Cooper (pole vault) as well as the 4x400m relay team.

In the team standings, the Warriors took first place after totaling 206 points.

Running Highlights

In the 400m hurdles, Carney and Rand went one-two, both posting PSAC qualifying times of 56.75 and 57.26 respectively, while Beifus was sixth at 58.22.

The Warriors captured first place in the 4x400m as the relay team of Ryan Ditty, Zandrew Bowe, Jaylen Morrison and Esteves crossed the line in 3:27.59.

The Warriors had four of the top-eight finishers in the 110m hurdles as Jenkins took first place with a personal-best time of 14.90. Rand was the runner-up at a personal-best 15.22, Carney took fourth with a time of 15.38 and Beifus finished eighth after clocking a 16.52.

ESU notched a trio of conference qualifying times in the 100m with Charley earning a runner-up finish with the fifth fastest mark in school history at 10.69. Esteves took fifth after clocking a time of 10.73 and Gockley was sixth at 11.03. Gockely returned to earn a seventh place finish in the 200m at 23.11.

In the 400m meter, Bowe was the runner-up after clocking a time of 50.65 and Ditty was right behind in third at 50.66.

Brian McGarrity finished three seconds short of a conference time in the 1500m on his way to taking second place at 4:04.00 and he returned to take seventh in the 800m at 2:02.23.

In the 3000m steeplechase, Evan Wooby recorded a seventh place finish after crossing the line in 10:28.58.

On Friday, Camden Shaffer took fourth in the 10,000m run with a personal-best time of 34:37.22.

Field Event Highlights

Anderson picked up right where he left off, capturing a first place finish in the long jump with a conference qualifying leap of 7.04m (23-2 ¼). Smith took seventh with a season-best mark of 6.24m (20-5 ¾) and Aaron Sanchez rounded out the finishes in ninth at 6.12m (20-1).

Cooper secured a first place finish in the pole vault after clearing the seventh-best mark in school history at 4.65m (15-3) and Robert Plumb was in fourth place with a mark of 4.05m (13-3 1/2).

In the discus, ESU had four of the top-10 finishers with Cole Gorham coming in second at 49.79m (163-4), followed by Isaac Almoney in fourth with a throw of 43.16m (141-7) and Anthony Voto in fifth at 42.66m (139-11). Blackwell took eighth with a PSAC qualifying mark of 41.97m (137-8).  

Zach Nissley took second in the javelin and was nine inches shy of a NCAA provisional mark with a throw of 58.21m (191-0).

The Warriors dominated the shot put, recording four top-10 finishes led by Cole Gorham in third with a throw of 15.28m (50-1 ¾). Almoney was fifth at 14.83m (48-8) and Mattei notched a PSAC qualifying mark of 13.91m (45-7 ¾) in sixth. Voto rounded out the top-10 with a toss of 13.39m (43-11 ¼).

In the high jump, Sanchez paced the Warriors in third place after clearing 1.93m (6-4) and Smith was right behind in fourth with a PSAC qualifying height of 1.93m (6-4).

Blackwell recorded a personal-best mark in the hammer throw at 56.13m (184-2) to take third place and Almoney was right behind in fourth with a season-best toss of 55.69m (182-8).

On his way to recording a PSAC qualifying height in the triple jump at 13.36m (43-10), Jack Gorham earned a fourth place finish.
