SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Leading 2-1 after the first quarter, the No. 14/10 East Stroudsburg University lacrosse team recorded 14 unanswered goals from the start of the second quarter through the halfway point in the fourth quarter, downing Shippensburg, 17-3, on Saturday afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.
The Warriors (8-2, 4-1 PSAC East) pick up its third consecutive victory, while the Raiders fall to 1-9, 0-5 in the PSAC East.
ESU boasted a balanced offense that saw nine Warriors post a point and eight record multiple.
Kiki Fitzpatrick (1G, 4A) and
Jolee Roth (2G, 3A) led the way with five points, with
Madison Bagatta totaling four on a hat trick and an assist, while
Emily Mitarotonda added a hat trick.
The Warriors held the Raiders scoreless for 41 minutes and 40 seconds of game time between the end of the first quarter and the mid-way point of the fourth quarter.
Notables
- Hannah Schiemer, Campbell Heller, Sophia Graffeo and Hannah Campbell all registered two goals each. Lauren Hallman added an assist.
- Bagatta, Jameson Kernaghan, Schiemer, Sell and Olivia Wenrich each scooped two ground balls.Allie Sweeney caused a pair of turnovers, while seven other Warriors added a single CT.
- Bagatta and Fitzpatrick both totaled two draw controls.
- In the cage, Riley DiFiore made eight saves through three quarters of action, allowing just one goal. Bella Gismondi played the final 15 minutes, making a save while conceding two SU goals.
- Hanna Seifried found the back of the cage twice for SU and secured six draws. Sydney Fowler also registered a goal.
- ESU led significantly in shots (30-17), shots on goal (26-12) and ground balls (18-9), while turning possession over just 11 times compared to Ship's 18. The Raiders led 17-7 on draw controls.
How It Happened
- After over 10 minutes of scoreless play to start the contest, Heller registered a woman down goal with 4:30 remaining in the opening period to give the Warriors a 1-0 edge. Seifried erased the lead just over the a minute later to knot at contest at one goal each.
- The Warriors took the lead for good late in the first quarter, with Schiemer recording her 13th goal of her freshman season with 1:38 to play.
- Holding the one goal advantage entering the second quarter, ESU was able to record 14 unanswered goals to break the game open. During the game-altering stretch, Bagatta and Mitarotonda both recorded three goals.
- Reaching the 10-goal time rules with 9:47 remaining in the third quarter, ESU allowed just two goals with less than seven minutes to play to take home a 17-3 win.
