Men’s Track & Field Wins Three Events at Covert Classic

BETHLEHEM & PHILADELPHIA – The East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team concluded competition at the Covert Classic on Saturday as the Warriors won three events at the Goodman Track and Field Complex.

Adding a PSAC qualifying time for the Warriors was Evan Wooby in the 3000m steeplechase.

Penn Relay Highlights

Returning to the run the 4x400m, Zandrew Bowe, Ryan Ditty, Caleb Carney and Tyler Boone took third with a season-best time of 3:16.62.

Covert Classic Highlights

Track

Wooby finished as the runner-up in the 3000m steeplechase after clocking a conference qualifying time of 9:58.93

Kobe Jenkins claimed the top spot in the 110m hurdles after matching his season-best time of 14.88 while Joshua Rand took seventh at 15.95, followed by Brian Rodrigues in ninth after clocking a 16.55.

In the 400m, Trey Boyd took fifth with a time of 50.97 and Evan Clark finished ninth after crossing the line in 51.88.

Raul Esteves finished first in the 100m after clocking a time of 10.99, Justin Gockley took seventh at 11.28 and Jack Gorham (11.51) rounded out the top-10.

Joshua Rand captured first place in the 400m hurdles after running a personal-best time of 55.77.

In the 200m, Jaylen Morrison secured an eighth place finish after clocking a time of 23.24.

Field

Anthony Voto took fifth place in the shot put with a throw of 15.02m (49-3 ½) and Will Mattei finished ninth after recording a mark of 13.78m (45-2 ½).

In the pole vault, Micah Cooper finished as the runner-up after clearing the bar at 4.55m (14-11) and Robert Plumb took fourth with a height of 4.25m (13-11 ¼).

The Warriors dominated the long jump led by Daniel Smith in third at 6.31m (20-8 ½), followed by Rodrigues (6.26m – 20-6 ½) in fourth place, Daniel Daley (6.25m – 20-6 ¼) in fifth and Jenkins in eighth with a leap of 6.08m (19-11 ½).

Jack Gorham made his way to the sand pit where the sophomore finished third in the triple jump at 13.10m (42-11 ¾).

Aaron Sanchez notched a fourth place finish in the high jump after clearing the bar at a season-best height of 1.97m (6-5 ½) on his second attempt.

Voto returned to the throws area for the discus as the freshman secured a fourth place finish with a personal-best and 10th furthest mark in school history at 47.40m (155-6), while Josh Meshach rounded out the top-10 after notching a personal-best throw of 43.99m (144-4).

On Friday in the hammer throw, Daryn Blackwell took first place in the event with a throw of 55.51m (182-1), followed by Isaac Almoney in fifth at 52.15m (171-1) and Voto in ninth after recording a toss of 47.49m (155-10).

In the javelin, Seth Leonard took eighth place with a throw of 45.75m (150-1).
