5/10/2023 3:00:00 PM

NORTHBOUROUGH, Mass. – Ahead of its NCAA Tournament matchup with Kutztown on Friday, the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association announced on Wednesday that six East Stroudsburg University lacrosse student-athletes were named to NCAA Division II IWLCA All-Atlantic Region teams.

ESU’s Riley DiFiore (GK), Kiki Fitzpatrick (A), Emily Mitarotonda (M) and Maggie Sell were selected to the IWLCA all-region first team, while Hannah Schiemer (A) and Olivia Wenrich (D) were named to the all-region second team.

DiFiore posted an impressive graduate student season at ESU after completing her undergraduate eligibility at York. She was named to the All-PSAC East Second Team, helping the stout Warrior defense rank 21st in scoring defense and led the Warriors lead the nation in save percentage (.543) as a unit. Her 9.39 goals against average 17th nationally, while her save percentage (3rd, 0.543), total saves (10th, 185) both rank among the top-10. The first-team all-region accolade is the second of her career, after being named to the All-Metro Region First Team by the IWLCA in 2021.

Fitzpatrick served as the distributor for the Warriors, posting a team-high 31 assists and ranks second on the squad in points (56) and draw controls (56). The Sayville, N.Y. native earns her second consecutive IWLCA All-Atlantic Region First Team honor, as she ranks fourth in the PSAC in assists, eighth in free-position goals per game, second in free-position percentage and 11th in points. She posted multiple points in all but three contests, including three-plus in 12 games. She is just eight assists from 100 career assists and seven points from reaching the 200-point mark.

Mitarotonda is named to the IWLCA All-Region First Team for the third straight season after another impressive campaign in which she broke the record for career goals as just a junior. An explosive offensive weapon and an elite defender, the Rockaway, N.J. product  ranks sixth in goals per game, eighth in free-position goals per game, 10th in both caused turnovers and ground balls per game per game and 25th in points per game. She has tallied 72 goals, 14 assists for 86 points this season, becoming the first Warrior to score 200 career goals and now has 209 in her illustrious career. She is only 14 points away from breaking ESU’s carer points record of 270 set by current assistant coach Hana Cicerelle in 2021.

Sell, who was named the PSAC East Defender of the Year, ranks among the elite defenders in NCAA Division II with 38 caused turnovers and 62 ground balls this season, helping lead the charge defensively. She was a major cog in the Warriors ranking 21st in scoring defense. She earns all-region accolades by the IWLCA for the second consecutive season. In 61 career games at ESU, the Perkiomenville native has totaled 98 caused turnovers and 158 ground balls. She has caused chaos in nearly every game, tallying at least one CT in 15 of 18 games, including causing a season-high six at Bloomsburg.

Schiemer earns her second postseason nod following her freshman regular season, after being named the PSAC East Freshman of the Year. Her 28 goals on the season rank third for the Warriors, right behind Madison Bagatta’s 29. A total of 11 goals came on free-position shots. She has recorded at least a hat trick in five contests, including a breakout five-point performance against IUP.

Wenrich earns her first postseason honor after recovering from an ACL injury during the 2022 season opener. The Governor Mifflin graduate tallied five goals, including four against Seton Hill in the opener. The defender/midfielder hybrid started in all 18 contests, tallying 22 ground balls and two caused turnovers.

No. 3 seed ESU battles No. 2 seed Kutztown at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at West Chester’s Vonnie Gros Field. The winner will take on the victor of No. 1 West Chester No. 4 seed Seton Hill on Sunday at noon at WCU.
