SLIPPERY ROCK – The East Stroudsburg University men's track and field squad put together another strong performance to maintain their second place ranking in the team standings on day two of the 2023 PSAC Outdoor Championships on Friday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
The Warriors, who qualified nine track athletes for tomorrow's finals in their respective events, have 38.5 points while Shippensburg increased their leading point total to 80 headed into the final day.
Decathlon Highlights
Finishing up the decathlon, senior Daniel Daley led the Warriors in ninth with a personal-best 5589 points, while freshman Bryan Rodrigues finished 12th after also totaling a personal-best 5439 points.
Resuming with the 110m hurdles, Daley was the runner-up after crossing the line in a season-best time of 15.56 and Rodrigues took fifth with a personal-best time of 15.88.
In the discus, Daley finished sixth with a personal-best throw of 28.47m (93-5) and Rodrigues was 10th after also recording a personal-best mark at 25.37m (83-3).
Moving into the pole vault, Rodrigues posted an eighth place finish after clearing the bar at a personal-best height of 3.42m (11-2 ½) and Daley was 12th at 3.22m (10-6 ¾).
Wrapping up the field events with the javelin, Daley was 11th with a throw of 35.77m (117-4) and Rodrigues recorded a personal-best mark at 32.85m (107-9).
In the 1500m, Rodrigues ran a personal-best time of 5:03.82 to take 11th place and Daley finished 15th at 5:19.98.
Track Highlights
The Warriors got the qualifiers underway with the 4x100m as the combination of Raul Esteves, Jared Williams, Zandray Thompson and Miguel Charlery punched their ticket to tomorrow's final with the sixth fastest time in school history at 41.40 to take third.
A pair of Warriors are moving on to the finals for the 110m hurdles as junior Kobe Jenkins clocked the top time and fifth fastest in school history at 14.69, while Caleb Carney earned the last spot with a personal-best finish of 15.11.
Advancing to the championship run in the 400m, Zandrew Bowe clocked the sixth fastest in the preliminary and seventh quickest time in school history at 48.80. Tyler Boone moved on after winning the third heat with a time of 49.20.
Charlery returned to the track for the 100m where the freshman punched his ticket to the finals tomorrow after running the fifth fastest time in the prelims at 10.75.
ESU qualified a trio for the finals in the 400m hurdles as Liam Beifus clocked the fourth fastest time while Carney was seventh. Beifus shaved nearly two seconds off his personal-best time at 54.73 and Carney crossed the line in a season-best time of 55.38. Joshua Rand also moved on after the hurdles were misplaced in heats one and two.
Competing in his third event of the afternoon, Charlery advanced to finals in the 200m as the Saint Lucia native ran the second quickest time in program history at 21.51.
Closing out the day on the track with the 3000m steeplechase, Evan Wooby finished just off the podium in ninth with a time of 10:11.48.
Field Highlights
Two-time All-American Donavan Anderson notched a third place finish in the long jump with a mark of 7.17m (23-6 ¼) on his fifth attempt. Anderson tied with Shippensburg's Maurice Whittle, who posted the same mark on his third jump. Sophomore Jack Gorham recorded a point for the Warriors with an 8th place finish after leaping 7.03m (23-0 ¾).
Sophomore Cole Gorham recorded a third place finish in the discus after notching a throw of 50.45m (165-6) on his fifth attempt and freshman Anthony Voto took fifth with a throw of 46.29m (151-10). Isaac Almoney rounded out the podium in eighth following a mark of 45.07m on his final throw.
In the pole vault, ESU's Micah Cooper finished in a tie for third place after clearing the bar at 4.42m (14-6) on his first attempt. Cooper tied with Shippensburg's Robert Lissner.
