Mitarotonda, Sell, DiFiore Named to IWLCA All-America Teams

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – After another successful season that saw the nationally-ranked East Stroudsburg University lacrosse team post a 14-6 record and advance to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championship game for the fifth consecutive season, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced on Thursday that Emily Mitarotonda, Maggie Sell and Riley DiFiore were selected to IWLCA All-America squads.

Mitarotonda (M) and Sell (D) earned IWLCA All-America First Team honors, while Riley DiFiore (GK) landed on the second team.

Mitarotonda earns her third consecutive All-America nod from the IWLCA after earning first team honors last season and second team honors as a freshman in 2021. The junior continued her illustrious career in the Red and Black in 2023, posting team-highs in goals (79), points (94), ground balls (73), caused turnovers (43) and draw controls (101). Overall, she ranks fourth in the country this season in goals, 8th in goals per game, 10th in ground balls per game, 11th in the in caused turnovers, 15th in points, 26th in points per game and 39th in draw controls per game.

The Rockaway, N.J. native became ESU's all-time goals leader with a season of eligibility remaining, now with 216 goals in 58 career games and is needs just six points to become the all-time points leader at ESU. She has scored in all 58 games she has appeared in, posting at least a hat trick in 15 of 20 games this season. She becomes the first Warrior to be named to the IWLCA All-America First Team multiple times.

Sell earns her second All-America nod from the coaches' association after being named to the third team a season ago. The Perkiomenville native caused havoc all season as a defender, posting 69 ground ablls and 39 caused turnovers, ranking 18th in caused turnovers per game and 12th in ground balls per game in NCAA Division II this season. She caused a turnover in all but two contests, posting multiple CTs in nine games, including six twice this season against IUP and Bloomsburg. In 63 career starts, Sell has tallied 165 ground balls and 99 caused turnovers as a two-time All-American selection by the IWLCA. In 2023, she has earned USA Lacrosse All-America First Team, the IWLCA All-Region First Team, the PSAC East First Team and was selected as the PSAC East Freshman of the Year.

DiFiore made the most of her graduate student season as a Warrior, earning her second All-America honor from the IWLCA after being selected to the NCAA Division III IWLCA All-America Second Team at York College during the 2021 season. DiFiore posted a 14-6 record, ranking among the best goalkeepers in the country in total saves (3rd, 216), save percentage (2nd, .554), saves per game (13th, 10.8) and goals against average (14th, 9.35). She matched or totaled more saves than goals allowed in 15 of 20 contests, compiling double-digit saves in 10 games. She matched her career-high with 18 saves against West Chester in the Atlantic Region Championship, which matches the most saves by a Warrior since 2017 season.

The Warriors (14-6) closed the 2023 season with a close 10-8 loss to undefeated and No. 1 West Chester last Sunday.
