Mitarotonda, Sell Honored on College Sports Communicators All-District At-Large Team

EAST STROUDSBURG – After recently receiving All-America honors for their performance on the field, this time East Stroudsburg University lacrosse's Emily Mitarotonda and Maggie Sell were honored for their academic prowess after being selected to the College Sports Communicators Women's At-Large Academic All-District Team, the organization announced on Tuesday. 

Mitarotonda and Sell were pivotal to ESU's success this season, with the nationally-ranked Warriors posting a 14-6 record, with all six losses coming to NCAA Tournament teams and a combined four losses to West Chester and Pace that appeared in the NCAA DII National Championship Game this past weekend.

Mitarotonda a three-time All-American continued her illustrious career in the Red and Black in 2023 as a junior, posting team-highs in goals (79), points (94), ground balls (73), caused turnovers (43) and draw controls (101). Overall, she ranked fourth in the country this season in goals, 8th in goals per game, 10th in ground balls per game, 11th in the in caused turnovers, 15th in points, 26th in points per game and 39th in draw controls per game. The Rockaway, N.J. native became ESU's all-time goals leader with a season of eligibility remaining, now with 216 goals in 58 career games and is needs just six points to become the all-time points leader at ESU.

In the classroom, the sport management major holds a 3.69 GPA, earning PSAC Scholar-Athlete of Athletic Director's Honor Roll at ESU.

Sell caused havoc all season as a defender, posting 69 ground balls and 39 caused turnovers, ranking 18th in caused turnovers per game and 12th in ground balls per game in NCAA Division II this season. She caused a turnover in all but two contests, posting multiple CTs in nine games, including six twice this season against IUP and Bloomsburg. In 63 career starts, Sell has tallied 165 ground balls and 99 caused turnovers as a two-time All-American selection by the IWLCA. In the classroom,

Sell, a psychology major, recorded a GPA of 3.81. She plans on  pursuing a master's om Counseling Psychology from Indiana University of Bloomington.
