Warriors Clamp No. 7 Kutztown in Scoreless Draw

EAST STROUDSBURG – Facing No. 7 Kutztown under the lights of Eiler-Martin Stadium, the East Stroudsburg University women's soccer team did not allow the Golden Bears to score, settling for a scoreless draw on Wednesday evening.

The draw for the Warriors (4-1-1, 2-1-1 PSAC East) lifts ESU to a three-way tie with Millersville and Bloomsburg for third place in the PSAC East. The tie for the Golden Bears (5-0-2, 4-0-1 PSAC East) is its first non-winning result in conference action.

Notables

  • ESU GK Emmy Clarkson (4-1-1) collected her fourth clean sheet of the season and the ninth of her young career for the sophomore from Frederick, Md. She has given up just three goals in six games, leading the PSAC in GAA (.500), shutouts (4) and ranks second in save percentage (.885). Clarkson now ranks eighth all-time in career shutouts, surpassing Amy Smith (1993, 95-96).
  • KU's Cassandra Baker made four saves in the shutout.
  • The nationally-ranked Golden Bears led in shots (22-7), shots on goal (4), and corners (7-1).
  • There was one yellow card issued to ESU during the final minute of action.
  • Emily Wineburg recorded two shots on goal for ESU, while Nia Chinapoo and Rebecca Kotula each put an accurate shot on net.

  • ESU heads to Millersville on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in an important PSAC East clash. The Warriors will then travel to Lock Haven, before returning home to face Shippensburg on Sept. 30 to close the month.
