Gasparini’s Two Goals Lift Warriors Past Raiders in Third Straight Win

EAST STROUDSBURG – Led by two goals from Carina Gasparini and Emmy Clarkson's sixth shutout in nine games, the East Stroudsburg University women's soccer team extended its winning streak to three with a 2-0 win over Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The Warriors (7-1-1, 5-1-1 PSAC East) look to wrap up the first half of the PSAC with a win at Mansfield on Wednesday. The Raiders (1-8, 1-6 PSAC East) fall for the fifth consecutive contest.

Notables
  • Gasparini came off the bench and provided offense in the 29th minute, registering a goal off a pass from Maddie Root. She provided insurance with her fourth goal of the season in the second half, stealing possession from a Raider defender and deposited a shot into the back of the net. The native of Austria is now tied for the team lead with four goals and ranks second behind Natalie Schooley with eight points on the season.
  • The assist for Root is her first point as a Warrior. Root is a graduate transfer from Youngstown State.
  • Emmy Clarkson secured her sixth and second consecutive clean sheet with two saves in the outing. She lowered her PSAC leading goals-against average to .444 and raised her shutouts per game average to .667.  Clarkson's six shutouts are tied for seventh in a single season in program history. Her 11 career shutouts are tied with Samantha Marina (2004-07) and Lindsay Vandergrift (2000-03) for sixth among Warriors all-time.
  • Clarkson's counterpart, Morgan Molyneaux, made seven saves in the loss.
  • ESU led 20-4 in shots and 9-2 on shots on goal. Ship held a 5-1 edge in corners and 7-2 lead in saves. Shippensburg was issued the lone yellow card during the 71st minute.
