EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The No. 3-ranked East Stroudsburg University field hockey team scored three first-quarter goals and cruised to a 5-1 victory over Frostburg State on Wednesday afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse.
The Warriors (8-2) rebounded from an overtime loss to No. 2 Kutztown on Monday. The Bobcats (3-5) dropped their third consecutive game.
Notables:
- Jady van Gils led the Warriors with two goals, giving ESU a 2-0 lead just over five minutes into the game. Through 10 games, the reigning national player of the year has tallied nine goals and seven assists for 25 points. In her career, the Netherlands native has totaled 25 goals and 25 assists for 75 points. Her 25 assists rank fourth all-time among the Warriors, and she needs just nine more to break ESU's all-time career record.
- Kerry Kaufman recorded a goal and an assist for three points.
- Minke Klijn, Elaiana Rivera-Lagalla, and Jessica Seidel also scored, while Allyson Forman, Emma Friend and Roos Bijman added assists.
- Frostburg State avoided the shutout with a goal by Layla Lagunas in the final 20 seconds.
- ESU held a 16-6 edge in shots, including an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal, and a 9-2 margin in penalty corners.
- Goalkeeper Sydney Pope earned the win after a scoreless first half. Jet Vermeulen made one save and kept Frostburg State scoreless for more than 25 minutes. Saar van Berckel finished the game, allowing one goal and making one save.

How It Happened:
- van Gils lifted ESU to an early 2-0 lead with goals at the two minute mark and the sixth minute of play. Kaufman registered her third goal of the season five minutes later to lift the Warriors to an early lead.
- After a scoreless second quarter, ESU padded its advantage with goals from Rivera-Lagalla and Klijn.
- With just 20 seconds to go, FSU avoided the shutout with a Lagunas depositing a rebound from Emma Price.
