Women’s Cross Country Qualifies for NCAA DII Championships

11/10/2024 2:26:00 AM

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University women's cross-country team qualified for the NCAA Championships with a third-place finish at the 2024 NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional on Saturday morning at the West Branch Cross Country Course.

The third-place finish at regionals matched the team's best in program history. The only other times ESU has finished third were in 1999 and 2003, with the 1999 finish marking the last time the Warriors competed in the NCAA Championships.

A fun connection between the 1999 team and this year's squad is that Katie Peterson, who was part of the 1999 team's top seven, is the mother of current top-seven runner Riley Trentowski.

Going into the meet, ESU was ranked fourth in the region, needing a top-three finish to qualify. The entire top seven improved on their times from the PSAC Championships.
Daniella Napoli and Payton Falkenstein led the way with top-15 finishes, while Carla Bautista, Mia Sisilli, and Gabriela Orama all finished in the top 40. Riley Trentowski and Megan Elgrim rounded out the top seven, both finishing in the top 80.
