EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The East Stroudsburg women's basketball team defeated PSAC West rival Slippery Rock, 60-45, snapping a four-game losing streak.
ESU (4-6, 1-4) held the lead for nearly 38 of 40 minutes to secure the win over Slippery Rock (5-6, 3-3). The only time the Warriors trailed was after the first basket of the game.
Player Performances:
Emily Chmiel tallied a 20-point double-double, her sixth of the season. She scored 21 points on 50 percent shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Brie Droege tied her career high with 13 points on 57 percent shooting and hit two of three from three-point range. She also grabbed seven rebounds, had four steals and recorded a block.
Corrin Gill (pictured above) had a game-high six assists along with nine points and just one turnover.
Brooke Droege finished with eight points on 44 percent shooting and contributed three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
ESU out-rebounded Slippery Rock, 42-30, with 16 offensive rebounds. The Warriors also had 14 steals, compared to Rock's three, and converted 20 points off turnovers, while Slippery Rock had 11.
How It Happened:
In the first quarter, Slippery Rock took the lead with the first basket, and after the score was tied at six, ESU went on an 11-2 run to end the quarter, with Lacie Kringe, Corrin Gill, Brooke Droege and Brie Droege scoring to give the Warriors a 17-8 lead. The second quarter was the highest scoring, as the Warriors opened with a 9-3 run to increase the lead to 26-11. They ended the half up 40-25. In the second half, ESU kept Slippery Rock at bay, even building its lead to 22 points in the fourth quarter, going up 58-36 before the game reached the final score of 60-45.
