Warriors Prevail With Strong Second Half Against Molloy in Non-Conference Finale

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Trailing by three points at halftime, the East Stroudsburg University men's basketball team outscored Molloy by 17 points in the second half to earn an 89-75 victory Tuesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Warriors (6-2, 0-1 PSAC) secured their third straight win heading into full-time PSAC action. The Lions (1-6, 0-0 ECC) suffered their sixth consecutive loss.

After shooting 37.4% in the first half, the Warriors found their rhythm over the final 20 minutes, shooting 63% from the floor, 54.5% from 3-point range, and 77.8% (14-of-18) from the foul line to pick up the win.


Notables

  • Nasir Griffin paced the offense with a career-high 24 points (9-of-12 FG, 2-of-4 3PT, 4-of-5 FT) and added eight rebounds.

  • Four other Warriors scored in double figures: Ethan Millirons (12 points, 4-of-6 3PT), Davon Lee (12 points, 5-of-8 FG, 1-of-2 3PT), Lakeem McAliley (11 points, 3-of-6 FG, 1-of-2 3PT, 4-of-4 FT), and Cam Young (10 points).

  • Lee distributed six assists, while Jalen Pichardo matched Griffin's eight rebounds and added four assists. Young contributed four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

  • Molloy was led by Rob Matos, who scored 23 points (7-of-20 FG) and had seven assists.

  • ESU has made at least 19 free throws in all eight games this season, shooting over 70% from the line in each contest.

  • The Warriors recorded 23 assists on 30 field goals, shooting their second-best mark from the field this season at 48.4%, despite the slow start.

  • Defensively, ESU held Molloy to a season-low 42% shooting and forced at least 20 turnovers for the fourth time this season. The Warriors also recorded double-digit steals for the fifth time.


How It Happened

The first half was a defensive battle, featuring 13 lead changes and six ties.

The Warriors took a 12-11 lead after a layup by Lee, but a quick 5-0 Molloy run gave the Lions the advantage. ESU responded with seven straight points to take a 19-16 lead, but Molloy regained the edge as the teams traded baskets. Tied at 30-30 with 3:06 left, Molloy outscored ESU 8-5 to take a 38-35 lead into halftime.

After the break, the Warriors opened the second half with a decisive 15-0 run in just 3:37 to take a 50-38 lead. ESU went 6-of-8 from the field during the stretch, while holding Molloy to 0-for-8 shooting.

Molloy briefly cut the deficit to six points with a 6-0 run, but ESU responded with a 14-8 burst to extend the lead to 12.

The Warriors maintained a double-digit advantage for the rest of the game, taking their largest lead of 18 points at 79-61 with 6:24 remaining. Molloy trimmed the margin to 11 with 1:36 left, but ESU sealed the 14-point victory down the stretch.
