EAST STROUDSBURG – A slow start troubled the East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team as the Warriors fell to West Chester, 61-42, in a PSAC East game on Saturday afternoon inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
The Warriors suffered their fourth straight loss, dropping to 7-14 overall and 5-11 in the PSAC while the Golden Rams (18-5, 13-4) remained red hot following their 10th consecutive victory.
Notables
- Juniors Izzy Vogel (three assists, two rebounds, one steal) and Emily Chmiel (five rebounds, two blocks, one steal) paced the Warriors offensively with seven points each
- Senior Gween Sabato (one assist, one steal) and Leah Pishock (five rebounds, one steal) both added six points
- Junior Corrin Gill registered five points, three rebounds and three assists while freshman Lacie Kringe scored a career-high four points
- West Chester's Emily McAteer poured in a game-high 21 points to go with four rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block. Back-to-back PSAC Athlete of the Week Leah Johnson finished with 14 points, nine assists, six rebounds and five steals while Anna McTamney was in double figures with 13 points.
- West Chester shot 44.6 percent (25-of-56) from the field, including 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from three-point range, while ESU finished at 35.6 percent (16-of-45) overall and 30.8 percent (4-of-13) from long distance
- At the free throw line, ESU went 6-for-8 (75.0%) and West Chester shot 85.7 % (6-of-7)
- The Golden Rams finished with the edge in rebounds (36-27), offensive rebounds (13-8), points off turnovers (22-14) and points in the paint (22-14)
- West Chester completed the season sweep of ESU for the third straight time as the Golden Rams pushed their advantage in the all-time series to 84-33
How It Happened
- ESU raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter, but West Chester proceeded to outscore the Warriors by 13 points (16-3) over the final 7:49 of the period to take an 18-7 advantage.
- The Warriors scored the first four points of the second quarter to pull within seven at 18-11, but the Golden Rams poured in nine of the final 11 points to regain a 27-13 lead at the break.
- West Chester carried over momentum into the second half as the Golden Rams began the third quarter on a 12-2 spurt to increase their lead to 39-15. Over the final three-plus minutes of the period, ESU and West Chester each scored seven points to give the Golden Rams a 46-22 advantage.
- ESU caught fire offensively in the fourth quarter as the Warriors outscored the Golden Rams, 20-15, after shooting 8-for-18 (44.4%) from the floor to make the final score 61-42 in favor of West Chester
