Hazebroek Breaks 10-year 500 Freestyle Record on Day 3 of PSAC Swimming Championships

CARLISLE, Pa. – Freshman Anique Hazebroek registered a school record in the 500-yd freestyle to highlight the third day of the PSAC Championships for the East Stroudsburg University swimming team on Friday at the Keystone Aquatic Center.
The Warriors remain in ninth place in the team standings, compiling 268.5 points through three days of the four-day event.

Notables
  • Hazebroek's time of 5:05.97 in the finals broke a 10-year-old program record set by Allison Schafer in 2013-14 with a time of 5:09.46. She took first in the B-Final in the event, earning ninth-place overall.
  • Helia Wang also tallied a top-10 time in the event, with her time of 5:27.25 in the preliminary round ranking 10th best in program history.
  • Kennedy Leveto nearly broke an additional school record in the 100-yd breaststroke, registering a mark of 1:06.80. The time ranks third all-time in program history, less than a second away from the program-record mark of 1:06.09.
  • ESU's 200-yd medley relay team also had a close call with a program record, tallying a time of 1:48.79, within a second of the program record of 1:48.02 set in 2018 by Colleen Dwyer, Kate Zimmerman, Briana Hall and Annie Fagan. The crew of Jenna Johnson, Kennedy Leveto, Avery Fohring and Vera Renshof finished seventh in the event.
How It Happened - Session 5
  • Anique Hazebroek (12th, 5:10.44), Helia Wang (29th, 5:27.25) and Madison Tafe (32nd, 5:39.52) opened the day for ESU with the 500-yd freestyle. Hazebroek's 12th-place finish qualified her for the finals in the evening session.
  •  Jenna Johnson (33rd, 1:01.92) and Sam Grayauskie (43, 1:04.23) each competed for ESU in the 100-yd backstroke preliminaries.
  • Kennedy Leveto became the second Warrior to advance to the finals in an event, with a 10th place finish in the 100-yd breaststroke, clocking a time of 1:06.80.
  • Avery Fohring also advanced to the finals in the 200-yd butterfly, taking 17th in the 200-yd butterfly (2:16.63).
How It Happened - Session 6
  • The Warriors opened the sixth session with a seventh-place finish in the 200-yd medley relay, as the crew of Jenna Johnson, Kennedy Leveto, Avery Fohring and Vera Renshof combined for a time of 1:48.79, in a near school-record performance.
  • Hazebroek registered her school record time next, taking first in the B-Final and ninth overall with a time of 5:05.97 in the event.
  • Leveto registered her career-best mark and nearly broke the program record in the 100-yd breaststroke, with a time of 1:06.74.
  • Fohring closed the night and session with 19th place in the 200-yd butterfly (2:15.69).
