Charlery Breaks School Record on Day One of PSAC Indoor Championships

BETHLEHEM – Sophomore Miguel Charlery shattered the program record in the 60m dash and the East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team sits in fifth place following day one of the 2024 PSAC Indoor Championships on Sunday at Rauch Fieldhouse.

The Warriors totaled 18 points, trailing first-place Slippery Rock (44.5), Shippensburg (43), Kutztown (28) and Lock Haven (18) with 12 events remaining.

Continuing to move up the record books this season, Charlery finally broke through in today's 60m preliminaries as the sophomore clocked a time of 6.93 to surpass the previous mark of 6.97, set by Pat Monahan in 2019.

Also highlighting the day for the Warriors was Anthony Voto in the weight throw as the sophomore finished as the runner-up to earn eight points.

Advancing to the finals in their respective events for the Warriors was Charlery (60m, 200m), Tyler Boone (400m), Renaco Limberg (400m) and Kobe Jenkins (60m hurdles).

Running Highlights

While shattering the school record in the 60m, Charlery ran the sixth fastest time overall at 6.93. The Saint Lucia native returned to the track to earn a third place finish in the 200m prelims with the quickest mark in Heat 5 at 22.15.

ESU clocked the fastest two marks in the 400m preliminaries as Boone led the way with a time of 49.60 in Heat 1, while Limberg crossed the line in 50.08 for the second quickest finish. Junior Ryan Ditty finished ninth overall with a time of 50.86 in Heat 1.

Jenkins moved on to the finals in the 60m hurdles as the senior crossed the line in 8.43 to finish sixth overall and third in Heat 3 in the prelims.

The Warriors finished one spot off the podium in the DMR as the combination of Lucas Thaler, Zephyr Crestwell, Emmanuel Gitonga and Tim Gale clocked a season-best time of 10:41.63 to take ninth place.

Sophomore Landon Boyle earned a 12th place finish in the 5000m with a personal-best time of 15:40.04 and junior Landon Boyle took 21st at 16:09.20.

Field Highlights

On his way to a runner-up finish in the weight throw, Voto recorded a mark of 18.15m (59-6 ¾) on his second toss and finished behind Shippensburg's Joshua Herbster, who threw 19.20m (63-0).

Jack Gorham captured a fourth-place finish in the long jump as the junior leaped 7.11m (23-4) on his fifth attempt. Freshman Bryson Gilchrist was just off the podium in ninth place as he jumped a personal-best 8.84m (22-5 ¼).

Chris Costa turned in a career-day in the pole vault as the sophomore cleared the bar at a personal-best height of 4.61m (15-1 ½) to finish sixth overall in the event. Costa's performance ranks eighth all-time in school history.
