Women’s Basketball Completes Season Sweep of Bloomsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG – Behind a fourth quarter comeback and a trio of double figure scorers, the East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team picked up a pivotal PSAC East win over Bloomsburg, 56-51, on Wednesday night inside Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Warriors, who completed the season sweep of Bloomsburg (7-18, 5-14) for the first time in seven years, snapped a six-game losing streak to improve to 8-16 overall and 6-13 in the conference. With the victory, ESU took over sole possession of the No. 6 seed in the PSAC East standings with three regular season games remaining.

Junior Corrin Gill led a trio of double-digit scorers with a career-high 20 points, hitting 7-for-15 from the field and 5-for-6 at the charity stripe. Playing all 40 minutes for the seventh time this season, the junior added three rebounds, two steals and an assist.

Emily Chmiel totaled her fifth double-double of the season as the junior scored 17 points, shooting 5-for-7 overall and 7-for-9 at the line, while pulling down 13 rebounds.

Junior Izzy Vogel was next in line with 15 points to go along with seven rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists.

  • Gill, Chmiel and Vogel combined to score 52 of ESU's 56 points and registered 41 of the Warriors' 47 shots
  • In her first game off the bench this season, senior Carley Adams totaled three points, one rebound and one assist
  • Making her first career start, freshman Lacey Kringe added one point and three rebounds
  • Bloomsburg's Katelin Starr poured in a game-high 20 points to go along with five rebounds, two steals, one assist and a block. Maddie LaFrance tallied 14 points and Lauren Kirsch added seven points.
  • ESU finished the evening shooting 40.4 percent from the field (19-for-47), 12.5 percent from beyond the arc (1-for-8) and 77.3 percent from the free-throw line (17-for-22).
  • Bloomsburg shot 41.3 percent overall (19-for-46), 26.7 percent from three-point range (4-for-15) and 56.3 percent at the charity stripe (9-for-16)
  • The Warriors finished with the edge in rebounds (34-27), offensive rebounds (7-4), points of turnovers (15-9) and points in the paint (28-24)
  • ESU completed the season sweep of Bloomsburg for the first time since the 2016-17 campaign, but the Huskies still maintain the advantage in the all-time series 57-32
How It Happened
  • After Bloomsburg knocked down a layup five seconds into the game, the Warriors proceeded to go on a 12-0 run over the next 7:18 to take a 10-point lead. The Huskies stopped the streak with a free throw and ended the first quarter on a 4-0 run to cut ESU's advantage to 12-6.
     
  • Through the first five minutes of the second quarter, the Warriors outscored Bloomsburg by three points (8-5) to stretch the lead back to 20-11. Out of the media timeout, it was back and forth as the Huskies edged ESU by two points headed into the break which gave the Warriors a 29-22 lead.
     
  • With the Warriors ahead 31-24 two minutes into the third quarter, Bloomsburg went on a 16-5 spurt over the next 7:47 of the period to take a 40-36 into the final 10 minutes.
     
  • ESU flipped the switch to start the fourth quarter as the Warriors used an 8-2 run to regain 44-42 advantage with 6:41 on the clock. After Bloomsburg tied the score at 44-44, it was the closest the Huskies got the rest of the night as ESU ended the game on a 12-7 run to snap the skid.
