LOCK HAVEN – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced on Thursday that the East Stroudsburg University athletic department ranks second in the Dixon Trophy standings following the winter season.
The Warriors - who ranked first following the fall standings - remain on track for their best-ever finish in the Dixon Trophy.
ESU's men's indoor track and field team led the Warriors during the Winer season, picking up 15 points with a third-place finish at the PSAC Championships. The men's basketball recorded 14 points after advancing to the PSAC quarterfinal round. The women's indoor track and field finished in fifth place at the PSAC Championships to secure 13 points for ESU. The Warrior women's basketball team contributed 8.5 points, with its trip to the PSAC Tournament. ESU's men's wrestling and women's swimming each tallied six points.
Sitting in second place with the spring season remaining, ESU currently has three nationally ranked teams in No. 4/5 ESU Lacrosse, No. 14 ESU Softball and No. 21 ESU baseball looking to chip into the Golden Knights' lead, The Warriors will look to also gain ground in men's and women's outdoor track and field and, women's gold and women's tennis.
The Warriors look to capture their first-ever Dixon Trophy in 2023-24 with strong team performances in the spring season. ESU's highest finish in the Dixon Trophy standings is fourth, set in three different seasons (1995-96, 2017-18, 2018-19) since the awards' inception in 1995-96.
The Dixon Trophy is named after F. Eugene Dixon, Jr., former chairman of the Board of Governors of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education. Each year the Dixon Trophy is awarded to the PSAC institution that accumulates the top score based on results of conference playoffs and/or regular-season records.
