Wohlbach Becomes All-Time Wins Leader in No. 14 ESU Softball's Sweep of Millersville

In her ninth season as head coach of the Warriors, Jaime Wohlbach recorded her 209th win to surpass Jone Bush

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – With a 7-6, 4-0 sweep of Millersville, ninth-year head coach Jaime Wohlbach became No. 14 East Stroudsburg University softball's all-time wins leader with her 209th career win on Tuesday at Seaber Stadium.

The Warriors (25-6, 6-2 PSAC East) picked up its third consecutive win after taking game two against Shippensburg on Sunday. The Marauders (12-11) fall in both contests after sweeping Mansfield on Friday.
ESU trailed 6-1 in game one before adding three runs in each of the top of the 4th and the top of the 6th to retake the lead at 7-6.

Wohlbach
  • Amid her ninth season as head coach of the Warriors, Jaime Wohlbach earned her 208th and 209th win against Millersville to break Jone Bush's (1976-88) ESU record of 208 wins. Wohlbach now holds an ESU coaching record of 209-157 and a career record of 379-379-1 with previous head coaching stops at Iona (2008-10) and Delaware (2011-15).
  • Wohlbach set or tied ESU's single season wins record in each of the past three seasons, tying the record in 2021 (29-16), while shattering the mark in 2022 (34-11) and 2023 (44-19).
  • Since 2021, Wohlbach has coached ESU to a 131-52 record, a PSAC East regular season co-championship (2023), two NCAA Tournament berths (2021, 2023), an NCAA DII Atlantic Region title (2023) and the program's first-ever appearance and win at the NCAA Softball Championships (2023).
Offensive Notables Pitching Notables
  • Paige Zigmund (W, 11-3) and Abbie Landrum (1-1) each picked up victories, while Sarah Davenport (4) secured her third and fourth save of the season.
  • Zigmund pitched five innings in game one, allowing five singles and two earned runs (six total), with five strikeouts.  
  • Davenport shut the door in both contests. The Hillsborough, N.J. native struck out nine while allowing six hits in four innings of work. She allowed a solo home run in game two.
  • Landrum opened game two with five innings of scoreless action. She allowed two singles and strikeout one without issuing a walk.
  • In the doubleheader, the trio combined for 15 strikeouts a 1.50 ERA, and held Millersville to hit .228 with one extra-base hit. Only three of Millersville's seven runs were earned runs against the pitching staff.
How It Happened – Game 1
  • The Warriors struck first in their opening at-bats of the day. With runners on first and second, after a single from Vicendese and a walk from Edelman, Ridgell belted a single to score Vicendese.
  • The Marauders smacked three hits and took advantage of two errors, scoring six runs in the bottom of the 3rd. A sacrifice fly, RBI single, and the two errors accounted for the six runs.
  • ESU instantly responded in its next at-bats in the top of the 4th, scoring three runs on three hits and an error. Smallwood connected on a pinch-hit two-RBI double to score Denva Shaw-Tait and Kaitlin Houser. Master sent an RBI double next to centerfield to score pinch-runner Maddin Grow.
  • The Warriors put up another three-spot in the top of the 6th. ESU loaded the bases with a walk from Kate Donaghue, along with Taylor Lipkins and Vicendese singles. With two outs, Edelman came up with a clutch single, as an error in left field allowed all three runners to score.
  • Davenport entered the game and allowed just one hit, picking up her third save.
How It Happened – Game 2
  • The Warriors opened the scoring again in the top of the 1st. A one-out double by Vicendese followed by a two-out RBI single from Edelman lifted ESU to a one-run lead.
  • In the top of the 3rd, ESU padded its lead with a pair of runs. Edelman smacked an RBI ground out, while Ridgell followed with an RBI single.
  • ESU extended the Warrior lead to 4-0 in the top of the 4th. Derickson blasted an RBI double, as Master followed with an RBI single to score the Warriors' fourth run.
  • Millersville scored its first run in the bottom of the 6th, with a solo home run by Victoria Fuss. Davenport settled in and picked up her fourth save.
