STROUDSBURG – The red-hot 12th-ranked East Stroudsburg University baseball team continued to make program history as the Warriors beat Mansfield 2-1 & 6-2 on Saturday at Creekview Park to run their win streak to 21 straight games.
The Warriors (24-3, 12-0) extended the program-record win streak once again which started back on February 18 and have now swept five straight series. Additionally, ESU's 12 consecutive PSAC East wins match the longest streak in school history (1985) as the Warriors remained perfect in conference play.
ESU has now defeated Mansfield in eight straight meetings and continued to dominate the series of late as the Warriors hold a 41-9 record over the Mounties dating back to 2011.
Batting Notables
- Junior Jack Rothenhausler extended his hit streak to 13 games after going 4-for-6 with three doubles, two RBI and two runs scored
- Fellow high school teammate Parker Frey finished 2-for-4 with a home run, two walks, two RBI and one run
- Sophomore Shanley Wall record two hits, including a double, one RBI and a run scored while redshirt senior Tim Haverstick finished the twin bill 1-for-3 with three walks and an RBI
- Starting game two behind the dish, sophomore Connor Reilly went 1-for-2 with his second home run of the season, one RBI and two runs scored
Pitching Notables
- Jake Albert was nails down the stretch of game three as the freshman pitched a scoreless final 1.1 innings to collect his first collegiate victory
- Junior Greg Wiley threw a scoreless 2.0 innings and struck out a pair in relief
- Gavin Sopko toed the rubber for his fourth start of the season as the freshman fired 3.2 innings, allowing one run on six hits to go along with five strikeouts
- Making his first career start in the series finale, Peyton Brannock (2-0) earned the victory as the freshman surrendered two runs on three hits in 5.0 innings of work
- Pitching for the second straight day, Ryan Iberer was lights out over the final two innings as the freshman recorded a pair of strikeouts
How it Happened – ESU 2, Manfield 1 (Game One)
With two outs in the top of the third inning, Mansfield grabbed a 1-0 lead as Jacob Houtz delivered a solo home run to left field.
ESU tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom fifth inning as the Warriors loaded the bases following a double by Rothenhausler, a free pass to Frey and a hit by pitch from Albus, which set up Haverstick for a bases loaded walk to plate the first run.
The Warriors grabbed their first lead of the game in the bottom sixth inning as an RBI double from Rothenhausler put ESU ahead 2-1. Wall led off the inning with a double before coming around to score the game-winning run.
How it Happened – ESU 6, Mansfield 2 (Game Two)
The Warriors put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the first inning as Hubbard singled to keep the frame alive before Rothenhausler roped an RBI double to give ESU a 1-0 lead.
Mansfield answered with two runs in the top of the third inning to jump in front 2-1 as Jeffery Coackley drove in a pair on a two-out triple to right center field.
ESU answered right back in the home half of the inning as the Warriors scratched across two runs on two hits to regain a 3-2 lead. With one out, Reilly belted a solo home run to center field to tie the game at 2-2. After Vicendese worked a walk and moved to second a sacrifice bunt from Piatkiewicz, the sophomore scampered home on an RBI single up the middle from Wall.
The Warriors tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third inning as Frey delivered a two-run home run to left field to make the score 5-2 in favor of ESU.
ESU made the final score 6-2 in their final at-bats as
Jeremy Piatkiewicz laced a single down the third baseline to bring home Reilly, who led off the sixth inning with a walk.
